Through HSBC Business Banking our global network offers comprehensive support, advice and services to businesses in the Business Banking market. From setting up a new business to managing the cash and trade flows of an established enterprise, the Business Banking team of Relationship Managers and Business Specialists provides a range of end-to-end solutions designed to help small and large businesses reach their potential.
We are now inviting qualified individuals to join this team in the role of Senior Business Development Manager.
Principal Accountabilities:
Through Business Banking (BB) our global network offers comprehensive support and services to businesses in the SME market. From expanding overseas to managing the cash and trade flows of an established enterprise, the Business Banking team of Relationship Managers and Product Specialists provides a range of end-to-end solutions designed to help small and large businesses reach their potential.The Senior Business Development manager is responsible for driving quality assets within the segment.This should be achieved by a strong ability to provide direction in assessing and capturing opportunities to acquire quality new to bank customer relationships and ensuring the proposed solutions meet their specific needs.
To participate in strategic decisions to drive the BB business forward, with a strong focus on high value, quality international customers and prospects. Working with relevant stakeholders the role holder will often combine acting as the senior point of call to support the design and pricing of solutions for clients.
To drive best practice in lending and risk policies ensuring this remains in line with economic and market practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Take a hands-on approach to achieving the Group strategy and business objectives for acquisition of new business.
  • Work closely with the team to manage high value, complex customers and ensure appropriate credit facilities are offered.
  • Attract new business with a focus on international high value customers and build a network of business introducers in the local professional and business community.
  • Champion international business and promote HSBC as the bank of choice for international Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
  • Adopt and ensure fully effective utilisation of all tools and systems provided to assist in service and sales delivery.
  • Maintain an effective credit and operational risk management framework, price Risk appropriately and minimise impairment charges.
  • Monitor and lead referrals facilitated via Global Links, local or overseas International Banking Centres (IBCs), whichever is appropriate, as well as referrals to other Global Businesses (e.g. Private Banking (PB), Global Banking & Markets (GBM) as appropriate.
  • Keep up-to-date on knowledge of HSBC's international strategy, capabilities and policies and keep abreast of external factors influencing international business e.g. economic, cultural, geographical, procedural and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and develop a team, establishing cultural and behavioral excellence, high engagement and effective performance management for the long term benefit of the bank and the relationships managed.
  • Win new to Bank customers by establishing network with key business introducers in the local community and working in partnership with them to exchange warm introductions.
  • Build strong relationships with prospective customers and third parties (e.g. accountants, lawyers, Trade Advisors and trade associations).
  • Work in partnership with colleagues across the HSBC Group to improve connectivity, deliver exceptional standards and quality of service across all interactions with (prospective) customer or other professionals.
  • Ensure RMs work with Product partners and assist in the delivery of solutions, services and products that are appropriate to meet customer needs and improve customer engagement.
  • Ambassador for the Bank and develop the Bank's profile in the local business community.
  • Act as an ambassador for the team and contribute fully to its development, effectiveness and success.
  • Support new and existing colleagues, promoting and contributing to a high engagement culture.
  • Maintain excellent communication with Group colleagues to ensure a joined up approach to identifying and capturing cross border opportunities.
  • Adhere to structures and processes in place for the management of credit, operational, reputation and regulatory risk.
  • Ensure credit and operational quality is not compromised in the pursuit of income.
  • Ensure operational losses and fraud are minimised.
  • Respond within agreed timelines to issues raised by audit and external regulators.
  • Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of customer information, including KYC requirements in Group systems.
  • Resolve any/all identified issues promptly, and escalate concerns to management as appropriate to ensure timely awareness of any material concerns.
  • Maintain and observe all HSBC control standards and implement and observe the Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators.


Qualifications
Skills & Requirements:
Essential:
  • Min experience of over 10 years of commercial banking experience.
  • Proven ability, with a successful record of accomplishment in:
  • Driving the performance of the Area across the balanced scorecard and delivering customer and financial targets.
  • Leadership, performance management and team development.
  • Commercial Sales Management. Strong analytical ability
  • Visible and motivational leadership.
  • Commercial acumen
  • Strong credit assessment skills, particularly with regard to more complex and structured facilities
Desirable:
  • Balanced approach to risk management including techniques to mitigate risk.
  • Strong knowledge of CMB's Commercial Banking market both globally and specifically relating to the local environment, including the competitive landscape, with a detailed knowledge of competitor propositions.
  • Broad knowledge of HSBC Group capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis upon inspiring, influencing and negotiating in dealing with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organise, with tenacity to drive through results.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and the ability to deliver compelling presentations.
  • Good understanding of Islamic banking products will be an advantage
  • Enthusiasm for collective management and the need to drive behavioural change, with an absolute intolerance of mediocrity.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organise, with tenacity to drive through results.
  • Innovative with a flair for solving problems.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of stakeholders.
