Insurance: currently 928 jobs. The latest job was posted on 23 Sep 19.
Insurance jobs fall into many different categories, all of which are based upon the concept of financial protection in case of accident, emergency, or other misfortune. Insurers (who create and provide each individual insurance product), re-insurers (who, in turn, insure the insurance companies should anything happen), and insurance brokers (advisors and arrangers finding the right insurance products for their clients) are the main job categories, while within these categories lie job titles such as underwriter, actuary and claims handler.
The Current Market
Within the United States, roughly 2.3 million jobs are insurance related, making it the largest insurance market in the world. If you're keen to travel and work abroad, the United Kingdom and Japan come a close second and third, offering numerous opportunities for those interested in the insurance sector.
Earnings & Salaries
Starting salaries within the United States can be as much as $70,000, rising to around $87,000 for those with some experience under their belts. For actuaries - top level employees who analyze risk - the pay can be more than $300,000 per year.
Skills & Qualifications
Unlike other finance jobs, you don't need to have an in depth knowledge of the industry or the market as a whole. Insurance, while being quite varied - everything from pet insurance through to medical insurance is covered -, is somewhat isolated from the rest of the industry, largely unconnected to the world of equities, trading, and so on. Therefore, rather than a strong financial background, potential employees are required to be very mathematically versed, with unrivalled analytical skills and strong communication. However, to work in a more niche sector of insurance - such as airline insurance for example, more specialist skills relating to that specific field will be required.
