We are looking for Indirect Tax Compliance Accountant
for our Budapest office
The Tax Department reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 200 employees worldwide. The Tax department ensures compliance with income and indirect tax filings, and monitors tax regulations and legislation. In addition, it calculates reports and discloses all of the Firm's tax-related expenses. The department also plans and manages the Firm's domestic and international tax strategies and advises Firm management and business units on business products, location and structure.
The Indirect Tax Group in London, Sydney, Budapest, Shanghai and New York provide Morgan Stanley with global in-house expertise, primarily in Indirect Taxes. The Group brings together technical experts who advise business units, with controllers who have an understanding of the processes, systems and accounting principles. Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Asia/Japan Indirect Tax Compliance Manager, the main responsibility is for the compilation and submission of VAT returns for Morgan Stanley entities in Asia/Japan. In addition, the individual will be required to assist with other returns and projects as required.
Provide compliance support / preparation of tax returns in various Asia/Japan jurisdictions
Co-ordinate the consolidation of information for the tax returns
Perform various postings to the General Ledger, including irrecoverable VAT/GST expense, and prepare monthly balance sheet and expenses reconciliations
Improve the automation of various processes using Excel, Omega (General Ledger) and other similar tools
Manage global and regional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Work with the members of the Indirect Tax group regarding methodologies to be applied, and broadly understand the reasoning and logic employed
Liaise with the business units to understand their business and to ensure that the correct information has been received for the returns, and work with them to resolve issues
Assist with VAT audits and ad-hoc queries from Tax authorities
Ensure processes/documentation is current
Other projects/tasks as required Qualifications: Skills required:
Experience in a Finance related role is an advantage, preferably in the area of Tax compliance
Strong organizational / communication skills given the demanding deadlines within multiple jurisdictions
Intermediate skills on Microsoft tools, particularly Excel
Good interpersonal and communications skills; team player
Self-motivated, innovative and flexible
Ability to work closely with the Manager, or without direct supervision
Keen to develop own potential and career Skills desired:
Asian Languages a plus (eg Mandarin, Japanese)
Keen to work towards professional accounting or tax adviser qualification (eg. CA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA)
