Senior Director, Underwriting and Claims Technical Development

Job Description
This position will be part of a small, dynamic technical underwriting and claims team reporting through to to VP, Head of Insurance Technical Services.


  • Perform audits of underwriting and claims teams in Asia, looking for trends, monitoring compliance with global standards and local guidelines and identifying training needs
  • Recommend updates/revisions to underwriting and claims guidelines based on audit findings and gaps, and advances in underwriting or medical practice
  • Collaborate with other team members to provide training as needed based on audit findings
  • Work closely with Internal Audit Services in their underwriting and claims reviews
  • Work closely with compliance teams for enhanced due diligence for customers
  • Responsible for tracking audit results and reporting to Senior Management and Global Risk Management
  • Key liaison between Insurance Technical Services and Global Risk Management
  • Support review of contestable claims
  • Work with business units to perform underwriting and claims analysis on an ongoing basis in conjunction with the local teams
  • Delivers Underwriting and Claims technical training, and coordinates training and Development programme across Asia

Skill Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of medical, non-medical and financial underwriting principles and practices
  • In depth and up to date knowledge of political, economic, financial and legislative events which may impact our business and our clients
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective written, verbal and direct presentation skills
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently but also works well as part of a small team

Educational Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years underwriting experience; claims experience would be beneficial but not required
  • Relevant industry qualifications are an asset
