Senior Business Analyst - Middle / Back Office

As a Senior Business Analyst you will help define the scope of change across Middle Office, Settlements and Asset Services functions. A key part of the role will be to deliver the business and functional requirements for prioritised changes and manage the change to completion, including holding client workshops and walkthroughs, working with IT (including vendors) to ensure development and QA is completed and coordination of UAT and demos with clients.


Impact on Business

  • Perform business analysis to elicit requirements and create documentation such as Business Requirements Documents, Functional Requirements Documents and Solution Documents for Mandatory Change (e.g. Industry, Regulatory, Audit) and non-Mandatory Change (e.g. product enhancements or client change requests)
  • Lead or participate in opportunity workshops with existing or potential new clients to capture their current business and technical models and contribute to proposal documents articulating benefits to facilitate capturing of new business
  • Lead or participate in multiple projects by completing and updating project documentation; managing project scope; adjusting schedules when necessary; determining daily priorities; capturing and assessing delivery risk; ensuring efficient and on-time delivery of project tasks and milestones; following proper escalation paths; and managing customer and supplier relationships
  • Manage discussions with internal teams as well as vendor teams where required to ensure changes are appropriately managed and supported throughout the lifecycle
  • Identify, create and facilitate process design changes by conducting business and systems process analysis and design at a complex level; focusing on quality improvement and data management; ensuring data is reliable and valid; developing process improvements or re-engineering and recommending elimination; integrating new systems and processes with existing ones; and partnering with internal and external customers to ensure systems provided meet the long-term business strategies
  • Provide and support the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders such as IT, Product, Control and Business Process Improvement teams; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognising and capitalising on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organisational changes and new responsibilities
  • Identify opportunities to increase adoption of technology solutions and customer satisfaction
  • Create and maintain project schedules where required by developing project plans and specifications, estimating time and resources, monitoring milestone completion, tracking all phases of the project lifecycle, providing timely reporting of risks and issues that impact project progress, coordinating actions and resolving conflicts
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure business solutions are appropriately quality checked before rolling out to clients.
  • Support system conversions, upgrades, enhancements as prioritised in the single book for change work

Customers & Stakeholders

  • Manage client relationships and expectations by developing and executing a communication process to keep others up-to-date on project or change status
  • Understand and negotiate needs and expectations of multiple stakeholders
  • Act as a centre of expertise for business analysis ensuring the appropriate techniques (e.g. use cases) are used for solution analysis.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively with Business Analysts, Process and Business Consultants, delivery partners and subject matter experts in gathering, translating and clarifying requirements and defining design options
  • Provide leadership to team members and peers by collaborating with others; articulating ideas and viewpoints to senior management, peers and others; identifying and initiating projects; managing resources; driving the resolution of issues; and holding self and team accountable for results
  • Collaborate closely with IT and software vendors to implement the requirements, provide necessary guidance to testers during QA process
  • Identify improvement opportunities (proactive and reactive)

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Ensure that all changes are delivered to the highest standards of quality including signed off documentation, application of quality assurance process and effective client communication to ensure business readiness is completed.



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor degree and 5 -10+ years of practical experience in senior business analyst roles
  • Experience of working with internal IT teams as well as external vendors for system changes
  • Strong experience and proven track record that can be demonstrated in delivering complex business and IT system related changes and documenting business / functional requirements
  • Flexibility in approach and methodology, and the ability to show initiative and respond quickly to changing situations
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and work to bring clarity to requirements by effectively engaging clients or partners
  • Excellent documentation skills for functional specifications and / or presentations to clients
  • Excellent client facing skills, with experience of managing client relationships either external clients or in a Front Office environment
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and deliver results to a high standard, escalating where required
  • Strong leadership and experience of functional leadership of junior BA resources whilst ensuring approaches and good practices are adhered to (note: this role does not require direct management of any resources)
  • Planning, time management and resource management skills (for small projects)
  • Sound understanding of IT infrastructure and software development lifecycle in the context of system changes
  • Knowledge of Markets products and associated post trade operational processes with specific functional expertise in one of Middle Office, Settlements or Asset Services for Cash Equities is highly desirable
