As a Planning & Implementation Manager, you will be responsible for providing the analysis, recommendations and implementation support necessary realize the strategic goals of the investment management team.

Department Description

Investment Management is a multi-location, multi time zone environment and is responsible for all core asset management, trading and research activities for Equities and Fixed Income. In recognition of continued expansion of the local offices and complimentary domestic businesses, the Investment Management Operations function is required to support general day to day activities together with providing strategic support for key stakeholder initiatives. This will include providing comprehensive solutions including planning & implementation, portfolio services, research and trading operations and technological & administrative services to the core Investment team at both the strategic level and on a day to day basis.

Investment Services is responsible for four functions supporting FILs investment professionals and Asset management team:

  • Planning & Implementation - a regional function responsible for providing business analysis, project initiation and delivery for discrete initiatives supporting FIL's investment management team in Asia.
  • Market Data - a regional function responsible for the management of and payments to market data providers supporting FIL's offices in Asia
  • InfoCenter - a regional function responsible for the creation of InfoPacks, management of FIL's research library and providing information support to FIL's investment professionals
  • External Research Operations - a global function responsible for the systems and processes required to manage, evaluate and pay for external research.

Initiatives will vary immensely with evolving business needs and regulatory changes. Implementation approach and requirements will oftentimes be driven by the outcome of your analysis and recommendations. As such, there is no prescriptive delivery methodology across all initiatives. A successful approach will be structured and methodical while maintaining the maximum level of flexibility and responsiveness to a rapidly changing input and requirements set.

Key stakeholders are the Global Head of Research as well as the Equity and Fixed Income CIOs. Working closely with these business stakeholders and other internal stakeholders, outstanding analytical, interpersonal and communication skills are essential to your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand stakeholder business goals and analyse possible solutions and their feasibility
  • Project initiation and ongoing support to formal or large scale implementations
  • Conduct detailed analysis on operating models, processes, systems, documents, integrations etc.,
  • Raise & Identify root causes of key risks and issues within Investment Operations team.
  • Provide ongoing and Ad-hoc reporting to support senior management decision making.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and other meetings / communications
  • Identify, communicate and resolve key issues and risks
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and partner functions / vendors
  • Some travel within Asia/Europe may be required from time to time

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • 5+ years of hands-on project experience as a business analyst, project manager or consultant with financial institutions or consultancies
  • Experience delivering impact assessment, process design, test coordination and vendor management
  • Excellent problem solving and presentation skills
  • Collaborative team player and self-starter, with flexibility to work under a culturally-diverse environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Ability to digest complex regulatory rules and translate these to practical business solutions
  • Previous experience in working with virtual / offshore teams across multiple jurisdictions
  • Understanding of project management & business analysis methodologies
  • Strong Influencing Skills
  • SQL / Database query capability valued
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Fluent in English. Capability in Mandarin preferred
