Job Description & Summary
A career in our Personal Tax Compliance practice, within Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients meet and manage their tax obligations across unique but ever changing tax specialties. You'll advise clients on their local and overseas tax affairs, while acting as a strategic consultant related to business analysis, managing indirect taxes, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions.

Our team helps individuals and families comply with US Federal and State tax filing rules. You'll focus on tax policy changes related to tax returns, US and international tax reporting, tax payments and Internal Revenue Service communications.

Role description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and energetic individual to join our growing International Private Client (IPC) tax team. We are a small team so you'll have the opportunity to help our clients with the myriad of services often required when dealing with high net with individuals, including; income tax, residence and immigration planning; real property structuring; estate and gift tax; entity structuring; and executive compensation and financial consulting.

You will use your previous experience to support the Senior Managers and Partners in all areas of client service, and internal operations including; marketing, business development, and finance. This is a fast paced, dynamic area of the business, and you will have wide ranging responsibilities above and beyond the usual opportunities of your level.

We are very ambitious for the future of our International Private Client business and we want you to be too; as it continues to grow you will work with our senior management in helping shape the future of our practice.

Responsibilities

As a senior associate, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy through to execution. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Proactively assist in the management of a portfolio of clients, while reporting to Managers and above
  • Be involved in the financial management of clients
  • Be actively involved in business development activities to market the IPC brand both internally and externally; be involved in developing a playbook of services for HNWIs in Asia
  • Contribute to the development of your own and the team's technical acumen and EQ
  • Network with your peers and stakeholders both in Hong Kong and China, and across Asia
  • Train, coach, and supervise staff
  • Assimilate to the culture of the region ensuring you are relevant as an advisor

CPA or equivalent, Lawyer, or Enrolled Agent

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrates extensive knowledge and/or a proven record of success in dealing with:
  • high net worth individuals, with extensive experience in the following areas: individual income tax planning, wealth transfer planning, international tax planning and tax return compliance.
  • with entrepreneurs and their companies to understand and assess the tax impact of company business, operations and transactions in multiple jurisdictions through the life cycle of the business (start up, growth, expansion, exit); understanding corporate tax including tax research, compliance and consulting within an international taxation environment;
  • individual tax planning for senior executive cross-border movement including foreign national and expatriate issues, leading multiple country tax analyses


Demonstrates abilities and/or a proven record of success in the following areas:
  • completing and reviewing the following tax forms: 1040, 706, 709, 1041, 3520, 3520-A, 8938, 5471, 8621, 8865, 1116 and FinCEN 114 for High Net Worth individuals.
  • experience with research, writing and consulting on various international tax matters, including: expatriation, voluntary disclosure, various cross-border consulting and compliance matters, foreign tax credit, treaty analysis and foreign national issues.
  • a thorough level of ability with, and/or a proven record of success as both an individual contributor and team member, identifying and addressing client needs: actively participating in client discussions and meetings; communicating a broad range of Firm services; and, managing engagements, including preparing concise, accurate documents and maintaining project economics while maintaining flexibility for unanticipated issues.
  • thorough abilities and/or a proven record of success as a team leader: creating a positive environment by monitoring workloads of the team while meeting client expectations and respecting the work-life quality of team members; providing candid, meaningful feedback in a timely manner; keeping leadership informed of progress and issues; answering questions and providing direction to less-experienced staff.
