Department Profile
The Institutional Equity Division (IED) is a global leader in the origination, distribution and trading of equity, equity-linked and equity-derivative securities. The Firm’s equity Sales & Trading operations provide liquidity, distribute content, and create product solutions to help our clients generate alpha. The Equity Derivatives Sales Group has a content driven and client centric approach which has proven to be a recipe for success since the build-out got underway in 2008. Structured around four main product areas – index, single stock, exotics and corporate derivatives – the business operates as a matrix with the four client segments of retail distribution, asset owners, high-velocity trading and corporates.

Overview of the Role

The Delta One Strategist team is part of the Institutional Equities Division. The team works with the Delta One Swap Desk and Stock Loan desks covering the Asia region and is responsible for:

- Development of reporting/analytics for risk and pricing

- Analytics/ad-hoc development in support of new products

- Development of work flow/alerting tools for Sales/Trading

- Support and enhancement of strategist developed trader tools

- Collaborating with other divisions within the organization (IT, Operations, Controllers) to improve desk work flow/efficiency/risk controls

- Development of quick time-to-market technical enhancements to trading flows to meet near term trader, client, risk, or regulatory requirements


Business Skills


- Engage with traders in business orientated conversation

- Explain technical delivery and/or challenges in non-technical terms

- Interact and influence/partner with all areas of the organisation (Trading/Sales, Trading IT, Controllers, Operations) to drive delivery

- Comfortable using statistics and math to discuss issues with technical and non-technical staff

Business Knowledge:

- Knowledge of delta one products preferred

- Knowledge of stock loan a plus

- Experience building/understanding trading strategies, order management, FIX protocol a plus

- Knowledge of statistical arbitrage and derivatives pricing a plus

Solution Design:

- Assess business requirements and rapidly determine how to leverage existing infrastructure to shape a Strategist solution

- Ability to understand complex business/trading flows and map technical infrastructure

- Ability to interpret Trader requirements/business challenge and identify improvements in requirements

- Assess how existing trading flows can be improved


- Ability to expand upon a brief business requirement and deliver an enhanced solution through innovative technical solutions

- Source new technical capabilities and determine how/whether can be applied to business challenges

Working style:

- Manage high work load, comfortable working on multiple tasks in parallel and working to intra-day deadlines

- Working as part of a small team, yet need to be able to deliver independently

Technical Skills:

- Statistical/data analysis (R or Python preferred)

- Kdb+/q a big positive

- Javascript web development

- At least one object-oriented programming language (Java, C#, C++)

- Database programming (SQL, Sybase/DB2) a plus
