Our client is a State-Owned leading trading house, and they are now seeking a highly experienced physical commodities business development head to join their Hong Kong branch and responsible for building out the desk and develop the business as part of their expansion initiatives. The candidate should have a good specific knowledge of this market and should have some key experience in the following areas including metal, oil, plastics, cotton etc., with an established network and proven track record within international markets within but not limited to SEA, Singapore, China, South America, Europe etc.
Your job is to develop local and overseas business opportunities for commodity products and expand overseas branch office in Hong Kong. You will coordinate business operations in global sourcing, purchasing and selling through travelling and visiting suppliers for negotiation and analysis of customers’ needs and market trends. You will also need to visit buyer factories for production performance and financial status review. To review and develop sourcing and exporting business strategies as per global business environment, you will work directly with overseas agencies and vendors for product development, sourcing and selling. Also, you will be responsible for the regulatory compliance and overall risk management in business including payment credit, quality control and claims due to production and delivery. While developing and overseeing operations budget, you will be setting sales and marketing goals based on the company’s plans in accordance with company policies and procedures consistently. From time to time, you will be making presentations and supporting executive staffs.
You must have experience working in a trading house and / or financial institution. Be willing to be based in Hong Kong. You must have current / prior experience dealing with the APAC region. Be prepared for travelling to drive business forward.
Native or Fluent Mandarin/Cantonese will be a must and any experience dealing within the Asian region will be a plus. You should have at least 8 - 10 years of industry experience with proven ability to understand and manage risk associated with a large physical book. You also should have a strong discipline and worked on a regional platform before.
