We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Global Markets Managing Director - Chief Control Officer, Global Markets Asia Pacific .

Principal responsibilities

  • The Chief Control Officer is responsible for ensuring appropriate first line of defence oversight and governance across the Global Markets business across Asia Pacific, and particularly with respect to the following four principle areas; Business Risk and Control Management, Business Analytics, Quality and Assurance, and Governance
  • Manage the team of business assurance analysts, who are responsible for testing various activities and procedures outside any scheduled controls testing or Audit activities at the request of Global Markets senior management
  • Ensure that there are the appropriate quality measures and monitoring of services and activities across Global Markets including those provided by third parties
  • Accountable for the co-ordination and collation of Operational Risk inventory
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the region's risk appetite statement, including supporting business management with the completion of their individual risk appetite statements
  • Ensure the governance framework, as it relates to the first line of defence, is clear and has the appropriate escalation points, which is well understood. This includes working with the business and the functions in Asia to ensure appropriate management of key risks within Global Markets including information security, business continuity, vendor / supplier management and records management
  • Take a lead in the direction and management of Business Risk and Control Management activities across the Markets businesses
  • Provide oversight to risk management / audit / control governance and assurance matters
  • Support Global Markets senior management in ensuring the appropriate control structure is in place and that control issues that have been highlighted are addressed appropriately
  • Reassess the operational risks inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology and services
  • Minimize the Group's exposure to compliance risk and reputational risk
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators


Qualifications

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of effective risk management governance and particularly as it relates to operational risk management
  • Extensive knowledge of Global Markets products and services in a global setting
  • Strong financial background and proven ability in analytical reasoning, including ability to contextualize financial data into business activities and conclusions
  • Strong leadership and management ability, including motivating and influencing employees in the wider organization
  • Broad knowledge of the external environment (regulatory, political, competitor landscape)
  • High level of drive and motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously
  • Use judgement and experience to determine how to handle complex requests and varying timescales
  • Outstanding relationship management and collaboration skills, with the ability to form effective relationships and achieve influence at the most senior level in the organisation
  • Practical experience of business transformation activities
  • Proven abilities in working across cultures
  • Experience of controls and or audit through significant roles in risk, operations, compliance, legal, audit, front line control gained working in a global investment bank
  • Outstanding leadership skills with demonstrated ability to use initiative and effect change within a large matrix organization
