A 12-week summer internship in credit research / fixed income team with a series of company coverage in a specific sector or industry.

The fixed income investment team manages money for investors across the globe and across investment strategies from money market to high yield and total return funds. As of June 2021, fixed income assets under management were US$108.7 billion, or about 24% of FIL's overall AUMs. With 136 fixed income professionals based in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo, the team comprises expertise in portfolio management, trading, credit and quantitative research, product management and investment services. Purpose of your role

The Summer Intern role mirrors the experience of a full-time Credit Analyst, conducting fundamental research to evaluate the creditworthiness of an issuer and assess the relative value of its bonds. The Intern will be assigned a project of discrete industry sector and group of companies to analyse. The Intern will have full and sole responsibility for those companies and access to all resources available to a full-time Analyst. The Intern will also have access to Credit Analysts covering related sectors and will be assigned a Portfolio Manager mentor. The Summer Intern will also have regular communication with a Director of Research. Training resources are available as required.

At the end of the internship, the Intern will present his/her findings and provide investment recommendations to our Portfolio Managers and Analysts. A full‐time offer will be extended to those candidates who demonstrate the aptitude, passion and desire it takes to become a successful full-time Credit Analyst.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be an independent thinker with the ability to effectively articulate an investment thesis and recommendation
  • Analyze and make investment recommendations for corporate issuers in offshore and onshore markets in China
  • Actively participate with portfolio managers and traders in strategy sessions that address credit trends, investment decisions and asset allocation
  • Make explicit bond recommendations to portfolio managers based on 'proactive' analysis
  • Preparation of research reports to support investment decisions and recommendations, based on her/his own research activities including management meetings, industry and company analysis
  • Work collaboratively with the global research team in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and London

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • 1st year MBA candidate.
  • Candidates with superior undergraduate academic records from all majors are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for investment management and fixed income. Previous work experience in finance is not required.
  • Highly self-motivated, thrive when given autonomy

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
