Our Team - APAC Risk Control Management

APAC Risk Control Management team is part of the APAC Chief Risk Officer (CRO) office which drives control agendas across Risk organization in the region, in close partnership with global risk control management teams and regional teams including Risk functions, Compliance, Internal Audit, Lines of Business and other Control Management functions. The team is establishing a Regulatory Management role to provide day-to-day management and support of the regulatory engagements impacting Risk Management functions in APAC, including regulatory exams, and other ad hoc regulatory meetings or submission requests.


This is an exciting opportunity to join APAC CRO Office to manage regulatory engagements and other related initiatives to ensure any related interactions are carefully managed and coordinated. In addition, the role may also cover other control related activities and projects to drive a risk mitigating culture within APAC Risk organization.

The successful candidate will be a Vice President with a proven track record in project execution, risk management, compliance and/or internal control functions. The role will report into the APAC Risk Control team lead and work closely with Legal Entity Risk managers (LERMs)/ CROs, risk function leads, and other functions in the region including Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, and Line of Business Control teams, as well as our global counterparts.

Key activities will include:

  • Maintain strong partnerships with location Compliance and Control partners for forward planning of regulatory exams and proactive regulatory engagements in support of LERMs/ CROs
  • Closely connect with global risk regulatory management team and risk stripes regulatory representatives to discuss approaches for specific regulatory requests to ensure global consistencies and best practice
  • Coordination of regulatory activity impacting Risk Management to ensure proper engagement with impacted risk stripes in regards to preparation of RFI, ad hoc regulatory requests and exam finding responses to regulators
  • Provide internal briefings to risk management personnel on regulatory items, in partnership with Country Compliance
  • Review RFI, ad hoc regulatory requests and responses with risk stripes SME, referencing past engagements and also similar submissions from other locations or regions, to ensure consistencies
  • Attend exam meetings and project manage deliverables where appropriate
  • Engage in discussions with risk functions on remediation plans and coordinate regulatory issue management activity, partnering with the broader risk control management team and issue owners; provide project management for cross risk-stripes remediation as needed
  • Provide information on any trends observed for regulatory activities across APAC and other regions to LERMs and risk stripe leads
  • Track and monitor regulatory exams, requests, meetings impacting APAC Risk organization, providing management information as appropriate, and providing input for Global Risk Regulatory tracking process; Escalate on key issues & concerns
  • Partner with global Risk Regulatory Management teams on regulatory requests, exams and meetings with an impact on, or taking place in, the APAC Region
  • Coordinate on preparation & review of APAC risk related regulatory issue remediation for location or global KEYS process, as required
  • In addition, support ad-hoc risk control activities for APAC Risk Management


The candidate must be a self-starter who is able to work in a fast paced, results driven environment and capable of communicating and escalating appropriately across senior audience. Additional qualifications include:

  • 8+ years of work experience in financial services; experience in risk management, internal control, compliance, audit, or equivalent function(s) highly preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory exam processes and/or background in regulatory matters a plus
  • Ability to articulate information concisely and interact comfortably with internal senior stakeholders
  • Able to operate across locations and functions with demonstrable strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Energetic, self-motivated and effective under pressure; Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks under aggressive targets
  • Excellent project management, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Disciplined approach to managing processes and controls
  • Keen interests in policy, governance and regulations; familiar with laws and regulations on banking businesses in APAC location(s) desirable
  • Proactive approach to problem solving, owning the issues and having the determination to follow tasks / issues through. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) required; Business proficient with Mandarin a plus
