TEKsystems New Zealand have been exclusively retained by Vital New Zealand to engage a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join their market-leading New Zealand business.

Vital is the provider of fundamental nationwide infrastructure and communication services that are Vital to New Zealand. We have been providing connected, seamless, integrated communications and coverage in New Zealand's most remote locations for over 25 years. We own and operate fibre in Auckland and Wellington positioned to take advantage of growing data consumption, are the largest commercial provider of nationwide radio in New Zealand and provide linking radio services through microwave to some of the remotest parts of New Zealand. We serve many customers across New Zealand including Government, Civil Defence, Emergency Services, Health, Utilities, Public Transport, Education, Logistics and Freight, Agriculture and Channel partners. Vital's solutions include Fibre and Ethernet, Digital Radio, Vital Cloud Network, Peering Exchanges

The Chief Technology officer will act as custodian of the Group's infrastructure assets and will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new technologies that are able to provide new services and offerings which in turn will provide profitable growth. Reporting to the Group CEO, the CTO role is a key leadership role and they will be expected to be proactive in keeping themselves up to date with market developments through their networks and research. They will be thought leaders who will establish the technology vision including new services roadmap for the organisation.

Executive Presence and Leadership - lead the vision & strategy for technology platforms, people, partnerships, customer relationships, operations, and thought leadership. Ensure that the team, customers, and board understand the vision for technology at Vital

Delivery and disaster recovery - define and manage external service level agreements (SLAs), ensure uninterrupted delivery to internal and external users, and own the
disaster recovery plans

Project Delivery - internal and customer facing end-to-end project delivery that always achieve time, cost, and quality objectives and exceed expectations

Operations - own and manage the engineering, IT, development, operations, procurement, project management, deployment, release management, monitoring and performance, quality assurance, information management, security, architecture, infrastructure, networking, intellectual property

Sales & Pre-sales - sales, design, new product strategy, RFP responses in combination with sales team, and overall commercial mindset to ensure the profitable delivery of services to customers.

10 years of CTO-level experience with several years at a senior leadership level covering vision and change, thought leadership and strategy, people leadership, financial management (CAPEX/OPEX), service excellence, and execution.

20 years local and international experience in telecommunications (mobile - 3G/4G/5G/LTE-A, fixed line fibre, fixed line copper, microwave radio(PDH/SDH), ISP, or utilities

Broad ICT/Technology Operations experience inc. ITIL, Service Management, continuous improvement (Six Sigma, Kaizen), SaaS, IaaS, networking/infrastructure/hardware/VM

Deep knowledge of RF (UHF/VHF) and wireless communications including Wi-Fi

Understanding of broadband IP (ADSL2, VDSL2) networking market, L2, L3

Knowledge of LAN, MAN, WAN

Knowledge of integration of different services

Strong commercial acumen (customer facing, pre-sales and solution design, customer delivery)

Operations experience including design, delivery, and operations (performance, processes, and tools)
