Role Summary:

We are looking to recruit an Associate Director/Microservice (SOA) architect who will be responsible for delivering some of our key technology strategies for 2018. The successful candidate will Develop SOA strategy and 3 year target architecture based on business capacities roadmap, current state assessment and industry trends. Applicants should have significant experience of working in IT architecture, experience of SOA and integration with IIB or other middleware platforms.


  • Develop SOA strategy and 3 year target architecture based on business capacities roadmap, current state assessment, industry trends
  • Develop implementation roadmap to reach the target state in a well-planned manner that maximizes business value and minimizes disruption risks
  • Participate in the optimization and ongoing operation of the SOA / Microservice governance model
  • Define metrics to measure and demonstrate SOA value
  • Implement architecture principles for the SOA and integration domains
  • Lead technical implementation of SOA services and provide timely reporting to SOA Program Lead
  • Develop and maintain current state conceptual and logical architecture documentation
  • Assess new technology and develop technology standards that can be applied to the company
  • Provide consultancy to application teams on solution and integration
  • Provide architecture input for
    • Business Risk Management
    • Information Security Management
    • IT Risk Assessment

Impact to the department and/or company (financially and/or a key enabler to our strategies)
  • Key enabler for SOA implementation which is part of HKIS IT strategy

  • A bachelor's degree is required; preferred field of study in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or other IT-related area
  • 15+ years of experience working in an enterprise-size IT environment of financial industry
  • 10+ years of IT architecture experience, including 5+ years of experience with SOA and integration with IIB or other middleware platforms
  • Proven experience with technical leadership of large programs and solutions architecture in the application domain
  • Experience designing applications leveraging microservices and integration patterns and/or delivering at least two Enterprise-level projects
  • Experience of cloud native application and microservice design
  • Experience performing current state architecture assessments and developing technology roadmaps
  • Experience with UML
  • Experience with Web Services architecture styles including protocols such as SOAP and REST
  • Experience in the development and rollout of enterprise standards; developing or executing architecture governance
  • Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting with the ability to estimate the financial impact of information system alternatives
  • Experienced in driving change across organizational boundaries
  • Knowledge of ACORD
  • Ability to operate with significant autonomy and latitude to meet business objectives
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of associates in the organization
  • Ability to conceptualize, formulate, and present complex business demand / requirements via comprehensible models and templates
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal error and guidance
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with an ability to understand the long-term ("big picture")
