The Modelling & Analytics team provides the scientific and methodological foundation for our products. Its work spans natural catastrophe modelling, risk analytics and data science, with a particular focus on the hazard, vulnerability, and exposure models underlying Location Risk Intelligence. We are looking for an experienced leader as Head of Modelling & Analytics who combines scientific depth, product thinking and people leadership, and who can translate robust modelling into relevant, scalable solutions for our clients and business.

Your Role

As Head of Modelling & Analytics , you will:

• Lead an interdisciplinary team of physical risk modellers, risk analysts, and data scientists, providing technical and disciplinary leadership, setting responsibilities and priorities, and fostering individual development and a strong team culture. The role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer.
• Set and manage the department's budget, capacity, and priorities, balancing scientific quality, delivery commitments, product roadmaps and business goals.
• Own the overall technical and methodological direction of Modelling & Analytics, translating RMP's product and business strategy into a clear modelling and analytics roadmap.
• Act as a key contributor to Product Lifecycle Management process to shape product concepts, assess methodological feasibility, define model requirements and guide modelling solutions from exploration through delivery, launch and continuous enhancement.
• Build effective collaboration across Product Management, Product Advisory, Platform, Sales, and Munich Re's Corporate Underwriting division to accelerate delivery and ensure coherent end-to-end solutions.
• Establish and maintain modelling standards, quality-assurance processes, scalability and market relevance of Modelling & Analytics solutions and models.
• Represent Modelling & Analytics, explaining complex methods, assumptions, uncertainty and limitations to senior and technical audiences.
• Advise the executive management team on strategic, technical and business-critical matters, including investment choices, model risk, make-buy-partner decisions and emerging scientific or market developments.

Your Profile

• Advanced university degree, preferably a PhD or equivalent experience, in natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, geosciences, hydrology, climate science, data science, engineering, or a comparable quantitative discipline.
• Substantial professional experience in physical risk modelling, geospatial risk analytics, applied climate science or a closely related field, including several years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary technical teams, ideally spanning modellers, analysts, and data scientists.
• Strategic, collaborative and pragmatic leadership style, with the confidence to challenge constructively, make decisions under uncertainty and take accountability across organisational boundaries.
• Deep expertise in catastrophe or physical risk modelling, including in probabilistic approaches, combined with a strong understanding of how exposure, hazard and vulnerability components interact.
• Strong understanding of risk modelling, data science and geospatial analytics; familiarity with modern analytical workflows, cloud environments, AI approaches in risk modelling and programming languages such as Python.
• A strong record of setting technical direction, prioritising portfolios of technical work and managing budgets and resources while assuring the scientific quality, validation, documentation and governance of complex models and analytical products.
• Experience translating scientific and analytical development into software-enabled products that address commercial and client requirements; experience with product lifecycle or agile development processes is an advantage.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts, assumptions and limitations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Advanced university degree, preferably a PhD or equivalent experience, in natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, geosciences, hydrology, climate science, data science, engineering, or a comparable quantitative discipline.
• Fluent written and spoken English; German is an advantage.
