Business Unit Overview:


BlackRock Real Estate, part of the BlackRock’s Alternatives platform, manages over $24 billion in private and public real estate equity and debt in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific. BlackRock’s Real Estate team manages debt and equity real estate investments on behalf of public and private pension plans, insurance companies, foundations, endowments and private investors. The platform manages a broad array of investment strategies, including core, value-add and opportunistic, through separate accounts and commingled funds. Our extensive experience encompasses all major property types including office, industrial, retail and residential.
Job Purpose/Background:
We are looking to hire an Investment Associate who will be a member of the EMEA Real Estate Investment Team. The team sources and underwrites investment opportunities and executes business plans for a number of mandates including BlackRock’s flagship European fund Europe Property Fund IV (the “Fund”). The Fund is focused on value add/opportunistic investments in the UK, France, Germany, Poland, the Nordics as well as Spain and Italy (over time) with equity commitments of €700m.

The position is based in Paris with a primary focus on the French market.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing investment opportunities primarily in France across all sectors that meet investment criteria
  • Analyze investment opportunities and market trends
  • Generate ideas and proposals for new investment products, strategies, and methods of operation
  • Prepare detailed business plans as well as accurate cash flow and return analysis as part of the underwriting of new investment opportunities
  • Assist in the preparation of investment committee papers and ad-hoc internal or external presentations
  • Conduct in depth due diligence on targeted acquisitions
  • Assist on the negotiation of commercial terms and conditions and deal execution (acquisition and sale)
  • Assist in the execution of the business plan and the implementation of asset management initiatives during the hold period
  • Assist in preparing relevant reporting on acquired assets
  • Assist on the formulation and implementation of asset specific initiatives to extract value and deliver superior returns
  • Manage external advisors, property managers, agents, consultants and other internal team members, to both motivate and ensure the timely delivery of required results


Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience within Real Estate, Investment Banking or equivalent – circa 2 -4 years
  • Sound understanding of valuation fundamentals and Real Estate performance benchmarks
  • Good understanding of asset management and value creation
  • Influential investment contact base, sound market knowledge and multi sector experience with an identifiable track record of sourcing and underwriting of profitable investment opportunities


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Masters’ Degree such as Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Real Estate or equivalent preferred
  • Experience with and good understanding of the investment process such as underwriting, cash flow modelling, investment deal structuring and due diligence
  • Preferably experience from investor side
  • Strong analytical and modelling skills
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fluent in English and another European languages is an advantage
