What is the Legal group responsible for?

The Legal team provides practical legal advice and service to the broader organization. Reviews and analyzes the laws and regulations of the jurisdictions in which Franklin Templeton operates. Interprets these in light of guidance, decisions, law firm advice and industry practice, as applicable, to the specific structure, organization and operation of Franklin Templeton's business globally. Advises business on actions required to comply with legal and regulatory obligations and contributes to decisions made by the business on appropriate course of action to minimize risk from financial or reputational loss.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Corporate Counsel ?

  • Provides legal guidance on complex business issues
  • Initiates and facilitates meetings with internal clients
  • Independently completes legal review of materials (e.g. fund bylaws, fund documentation, marketing materials and contracts) or analysis (e.g. regulatory and litigation events, applicable laws/regulations)
  • Independently negotiate terms with external parties
  • Independently prepares or reviews materials such as fund offering documents, contracts, Investment Management Agreements (IMAs), regulatory filings, and other disclosure documents
  • Partner with/instructs external counsel independently on routine matters and manages external counsel time in an efficient and appropriate manner
  • Under the supervision of a senior attorney takes the lead on correspondence and interactions on issues with relevant regulator

What ideal qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?

At a minimum, the following qualifications are required:
  • Post graduate degree in Law (equivalent to a Juris Doctor)
  • 6 years since fully qualified
  • Ability to practice law in Brazil
  • Enrollment/Membership in Brazilian Bar Association
  • Fluency in English required (please submit CV in English)
Additional qualifications include:
  • Ability to set agenda, identify issues and resolve them either alone or with assistance of other attorneys.
  • Ability to work independently on initial analysis and review of matters and understanding when to consult and escalate matters to the Senior Associate General Counsel.
  • Ability to manage various projects simultaneously being mindful of deadlines and business priorities.
