Morgan Stanley Wealth Management provides holistic wealth management services to clients investing in both domestic and international financial markets, alternative investments, and a broad range of products, approved for distribution. Our services and products include providing financial advice, financial planning, investment margin lending, structured products, managed funds, alternative investments, and crypto-approved products.

About The Role

The State Manager is responsible for the supervision and day-to-day operational management of the branch including the following:

• Management and conduct supervision of all staff; including the branch administration team
• Regulatory adherence of the branch
• Maintaining a collaborative partnership with BU Risk, Legal and Compliance, Internal Audit, IT, Financial Crimes, Research and Finance
• Timely escalation of any client and staff issues

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Manage the continued growth of the branch in line with key business strategies
• Supervise Branch in accordance with our Branch Managers Supervisory manual
• Provide leadership and management to approximately 40 Financial Advisers based in our Sydney office
• Identify, recruit, and retain the top performing Financial Advisors and Financial Planners in the market
• Oversee and supervising capital markets transactions, including IPOs, pre IPO and firm led structured products
• Ensure inadvertent MNPI disclosures within the Branch are escalated immediately and signed off by control groups
• Proactively seek new opportunities and enhance brand recognition within the state jurisdiction
• Facilitate the education and training of Financial Advisors in relation to regulatory standards
• Work with Financial Advisers to help secure new client wealth management opportunities
• Collaborate with the other Australian Business Units and Support functions

Qualifications:

Compliance Responsibilities

• Ensure the Branch maintains the ethical standards and firm's values contained in the Company Code of Conduct
• Ensure the Branch adheres to firm policies and procedures, regulatory and legislative requirements
• Timely escalation of any breaches of firm policies, procedures, regulatory and legislative requirements

Key Competencies / Skills

A. Technical/Specialist Skills/Competencies

• Detailed knowledge of Australian Wealth Management industry, including regulatory obligations, industry structure, technology landscape, competitive landscape and advice future trends
• Financial markets experience - extensive expertise in Australian and Global financial markets including global product awareness
• Entrepreneurial culture and strategic awareness

B. Business/Industry Knowledge/Competencies

• Extensive knowledge across all asset classes within the global financial market's framework
• Ability to apply knowledge to ensure technical and professional solutions are delivered across our broad client base including retail, sophisticated and professional clients
• Extensive knowledge of the client platform landscape in Australia

C. Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills

• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to initiate, develop and lead relationships and business opportunities
• Strong client focus with the ability to build rapport at all levels, particularly in the NFP and family office sectors
• Demonstrates a desire to uphold the cultural values of Morgan Stanley including, do the right thing, put clients first, lead with exceptional ideas, commit to diversity and inclusion, and give back
• Displays empathy and sensitivity when dealing with employee and client matters

Qualifications / Experience Required

A. Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications essential
• FASEA compliant including successful completion of ethics exam
• ASIC RG 146 compliant

B. Description Of Minimum Work Experience Required For This Role

• Prior experience managing and leading people
• Extensive industry experience
