Senior Manager, Risk & Operations
The Superannuation business unit seeks to increase market share and build customer advocacy through the delivery of market-leading products and solutions, business development and marketing activities. The Superannuation business unit is part of the BT Financial Group (BT) which is the wealth management arm of the Westpac Banking Corporation. BT designs, manufactures and administers financial products that enable customers to achieve their financial goals through the accumulation, management and protection of personal wealth. Distribution of BT's products is conducted through the Westpac/BT's Australian and New Zealand consumer distribution businesses and an extensive network of external financial advisers.
The superannuation industry is highly regulated with significant responsibilities and accountabilities. Government and regulatory expectations have increased significantly, and industry best practice standards have risen to meet these expectations. Customer expectations around robust governance and meeting community expectations has also shifted as the Royal Commission into Banking and Financial Services has progressed.
These regulatory changes have seen BT's Superannuation business become responsible for a more complex set of risk and compliance requirements. To ensure that these requirements are continually met, a Business Risk and Regulatory Centre of Excellence has been established within the Superannuation business.
The key responsibilities of this function are the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Superannuation business' first line risk management practices and frameworks, including activities to ensure operational requirements are appropriately embedded and regularly monitored. Your Role
Reporting to Head of Risk and Business Operations, duties will include: carriage of day-to-day management and administration of the Superannuation business controls to ensure regulatory compliance;
engaging with regulatory and business projects to ensure the management of both delivery and delivered risks to an appropriate standard;
ensuring internal frameworks and controls are adequate and appropriate having regard to the Superannuation business' risk management framework;
making enhancements to, implementing and ongoing monitoring of the Superannuation Business' unit exiting risk management controls and strategies;
effectively managing risk and compliance systems and processes to support the Superannuation Business' the delivery of BT's strategic directions and priorities; and
support the Superannuation Business with various tasks, projects and initiatives as directed by the Head of Business Risk and Operations - Superannuation and Head of Business Risk and Regulatory COE and Head of Business Risk & Operations.
To be Successful
You will be Graduate or post-graduate (MBA, CPA, CA or equivalent) in commerce or business-related discipline, or equivalent and have 7 years plus relevant risk management experience within the superannuation or wealth management. You will have;
Excellent working knowledge of key risk areas within a corporate environment
Experience in translating legislative and compliance obligations into business ready documents and tools
High analytical skills
Well-developed understanding of risks that can arise from registry systems, operations and product changes
A sound understanding of the governance structures that exist within the Super environment and the additional responsibilities that apply the Super business
An understanding of the Regulators and their areas of focus with the ability to translate this into actionable areas for the business
Experience in the design, development and maintenance of risk management frameworks highly desirable
You will have superior stakeholder engagement skills, results orientated and strong organisational and time management skills. You will have a collaborative sytle and willing contribute to a high performing team operating in a fast paced environment as well as a willingness to offer and seek guidance. You will have the ability to interpret complex structures and scenarios and simplify same and your strong process, methodology and risk and control environments skills will see you succeed in the role.
