Business Risk and Compliance Manager

Role purpose and scope Support the ongoing management and reporting of risk and compliance obligations in the 1st Line of Defence and embed the Operational Risk Management and Compliance Management Frameworks.
Promote and drive a strong risk and controls culture that optimises risk / reward, ensures risk and compliance are a key consideration in key decisions and therefore, helps achieve business objectives.
To continually raise awareness and facilitate a strong compliance culture that embodies our ethics and integrity, balancing commercial and client needs.
Advise the business to help identify, monitor, measure and manage its risks and controls. Provide pragmatic, outcome-focused risk and control solutions to optimise risk/reward balance.
Drive and facilitate key risk processes e.g. High Level Risk Assessment, Risk and Control Assessment, incident management and issues, providing JUNO support and reporting as required.
Assist business leadership to drive a risk and compliance culture and awareness in day-to-day business decisions and strategic initiatives.
Act as the first point of contact in relation to the business's compliance controls and policies and provides advice or input into business compliance risks and issues.
Support management in the pro-active consideration of the risk, control and compliance implications of key projects and change management initiatives to drive the timely and cost-effective incorporation of future controls - this includes corresponding PCF updates.
Facilitate regular reviews to ensure the ongoing relevance of the risk appetite statement, its supporting metrics and thresholds.
Coach and support business resources in how to apply the controls, self-assessment and compliance obligations; utilising various coaching and training methods i.e. facilitating workshops to identify control related issues and aid in the development of solutions and remediation plans.
Monitor effectiveness of self-assessment practices, highlight gaps and risks outside appetite and escalate as required.
Ensure quality of JUNO records and updates by monitoring and tracking actions against risk and control issues identified.
Assist control owners in their preparations for audits and self-assessments.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with 2nd Line Risk, Compliance and Assurance Managers along with the broader business teams.

Risk & Compliance
Proactively manage and assess risk, adhering to legislative and compliance requirements.
Understanding of Australian Banking Compliance and Regulatory awareness.
Risk monitoring and control landscape in the financial industry.
Policy development and implementation within the banking industry.
Understanding of product lifecycle and fulfilment processes within the Westpac Group
Collaborate to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes by communicating with influence
Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form to varying audiences
Ability to provide constructive written and verbal feedback
3 years of business / operations experience in a relevant area of a financial services organisation; or
Demonstrable experience of influencing senior business leadership, strategic thinking and prioritisation.
Demonstrable experience of translating the complex into the simple and communicating with passion.
Relevant industry qualifications (risk, compliance or business-related) and having experience in financial crime
Provide portfolio support as required.
Work collaboratively across the team to provide Risk and Compliance monthly and periodic reporting.
