About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Data Engineering, The Data Engineer role is responsible for the design, build and run of data pipelines to efficiently and reliably move data (both operational structured and behavioural unstructured, and in both batch and real-time modes) from primary source systems to the big data platform; the configuration, customisation and integration of data components to deliver and operationally run the big data platform; and, the operationalisation of predictive models/ machine learning algorithms in the big data platform.

Duties
  • Develop, maintain, test and evaluate large-scale data processing solutions (batch & real-time modes)
  • Assess, select and integrate any data tools, components or frameworks required to deliver the requirements of the business
  • Operationalise predictive models/machine learning algorithms in the data platform.
  • Implement ETL processes where required


Skills & Experience
  • A Baseline Security clearance is required, only Australian Citizens may apply
  • Proficiency (3+ years') in understanding Big Data platforms, Lambda architecture and distributed computing principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Azure's Data Services in the cloud (or AWS equivalent)
  • Experience with Big Data ML toolkits, such as Mahout, SparkML or H20
  • Experience with Big Data querying tools such as Pig, Hive or Impala.
  • Experience with or exposure to Agile methodologies is an advantage.
  • Natural self-starter with action orientation and willingness to "roll up sleeves" as needed in support of a "lean" project approach.
