As part of New York Life's Technology Organization's Operating Model the Solutions Design, Delivery & Support function helps execute the business strategies through design and delivery of necessary technology services within agreed constraints that meet the quality and performance requirements:

  • Develop IT services that provide sustainable value to the business
  • Deliver committed portfolio of projects within agreed constraints
  • Design, develop, build and unit test solutions
  • Ensure infrastructure and web services have been developed to meet Operational and Service Level Requirements
  • Plan and oversee the successful roll-out of IT service changes into the live environment associated with the Finance Transformation initiative

Responsible for leadership, management and oversight of technology in support of the Finance Transformation Program at NYL. Has overall responsibility for collaborating with IT Shared Services, CoEs and NYL IT LOB aligned functions (Corporate Technology, Insurance & Agency Technology and Investments Technology) as necessary to coordinate and manage the provisioning of IT services to accountable business entities.

This leadership role will drive solution delivery and operational excellence (application support and maintenance) within their technology teams. Leadership responsibilities include software and database design, technology and solution asessment, implementation, and test for systems supporting the Finance Transformation program as well as oversight of IT security compliance and collaboration with infrastructure groups. Additionally this position oversees maintenance and support activities within the Production environment that remedies and addresses performance and functionality issues by leveraging an effective sourcing strategy. This position will serve as a member of the Corporate Technology leadership team and as a key technology voice in the growth strategy of the business interfacing with Enterprise Architecture, our Technology CoEs and Business Relationship Managers.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Builds and advances IT solution design and delivery capabilities, including but not limited to implementation best practices, build & deployment standards and processes, standard frameworks that support enterprise architecture principles and initiatives, vendor engagement, resource optimization, and automation
  • Functions across IT governance structures and procedures to oversee and manage service delivery demand, performance, and risk
  • Coordinates the definition and delivery of all IT shared services related to applications, interfaces, and integration services, including, but not limited to package-based and custom-developed applications; database and content management applications; middleware messaging adapters, and wrappers; and thin-client (web and mobile) GUI applications.•Coordinates the definition and delivery of all IT shared services related to infrastructure, including, but not limited to, data centers, logical and physical servers, storage, networks, telecom infrastructure, and security operations
  • Ensures outstanding service to all internal customers and actively manages relationships with technology and business stakeholders to fully understand and support demand
  • Develops external application support and maintenance capabilities, establishing and managing relationships with external service providers to drive increased capacity and quality
  • Ensures that teams s/he leads work together effectively and are integrated with the other functions of the technology community, that roles are clear and complimentary and the function is positioned to optimally support the business strategies, and overall technology goals
  • Sets the example and fosters a "customer centric" culture, an environment of curiosity, integrity, nimbleness, experimentation and continue improvement
  • Stays current and informed on emerging technologies and new techniques to refine and improve overall delivery
  • Ensures the continued availability and reliability of the solutions implemented, including working effectively with IT Operations to monitor capacity, usage, and performance, resolving issues within established SLAs
  • Ensure appropriate measures are in place to consistently trend run versus grow, proactively identifying and implementing change to optimize the trend
  • Influences the technology strategy to consistently optimize business value
  • Accountable for designing in the ability to recover applications and systems within their defined SLAs
  • Partners with Business Relationship Managers, and Strategic Planning and Portfolio Management to sequence initiatives and work to ensure an effective demand management pipeline
  • Develops multi-year plans, goals and objectives for area(s) managed
  • Directs, manages, plans and oversees the operational and administrative activities of staff in assigned area. Manages resources including talent acquisition and development, establishing skills and growth plans, addressing performance issues to effectively build high performing teams
  • Coordinates alignment of FT deployment activities with on-going/planned IT operations (e.g. security and audit controls, disaster recovery testing)


  • •15+ years experience in a financial technology management position in a complex and distributed environment
    •Ability to launch and deliver multiple, sound technology services as needed
    •Works comfortably and communicates effectively with senior management
    •Experience and knowledge of best practices related to IT service delivery management
    •Experience with requirements management; application design and development and deployment; and technology architecture strategy and implementation practices
    •Significant leadership and collaboration skills; proven ability to dynamically lead local and distributed application teams and service providers
    •Ability to communicate impact of technology solutions and their financial implications to the business
    •Experience should include technology support for the following processes: Accounting Close , Investment Accounting, Asset Accounting, Statutory & GAAP Accounting, Reconciliation, Allocations, Consolidation, Inter-company Processing, Corporate Planning, Budgeting, Financial Management & Regulatory Reporting ,Tax, Acquisitions & Divestitures, Actuarial Processing and Risk Management
    •Experience with the following technologies is strongly desired: SAP Financials, SAP BW/BWA, Reporting Tools, including Business Objects (or Cognos and Hyperion), Data Management & ETL Tools, Prophet and Investment Accounting Tools (Investran, D&D, CAMRA)
  • Experience working with high availability environments
  • Experience managing vendor relationships in managed services and staff augmentation arrangements including off-shore
  • Knowledgeable in the ITIL ® 2011 edition framework

Preferred Level:
  • Experience working in an Insurance and/or Financial Services organization dealing with legacy technology progressing to modernized platforms
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or Computer Science required
