Portfolio Analyst – Private Placements

The Private Placement group at Delaware Investments sources, analyzes, negotiates and monitors fixed income investments across a range of structures from global issuers as part of its mandate to manage a $13+ billion portfolio of privately placed debt. The portfolio analyst position will support the existing team of seven investment professionals across all aspects of the mandate, with an emphasis on financial modeling and transactional due diligence.

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES:

The role of the analyst is to assist the group in all aspects of the private placement investment process including, but not limited to:

  • Building/Maintaining financial models
  • Reviewing company news releases, financials, compliance statements, and SEC filings
  • Arranging and participating in calls with company management
  • Writing and reviewing credit research reports and notes
  • Keeping PM's and Traders updated on all news items related to companies within assigned sectors
  • Assisting in more formal periodic updates as required by specific clients
  • Attending road shows, industry conferences and/or other meetings as required
  • Reviewing all legal documents associated with private placement transactions (i.e., note purchase agreements, guarantees, limited partnership agreements, etc.), and interacting with legal counsel on the negotiation of all such documents
  • Actively participating in investment screening meetings
  • Assisting in the due diligence process
  • Assisting in all aspects of the maintenance and monitoring of a portfolio of privately placed securities, including the documentation of trades, interacting with investment accounting and pricing
  • Assisting in Delaware's marketing efforts with respect to private placements, including preparation of pitch books and responses to RFPs, market research, and analysis of performance data


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of investment analysis experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Working towards an MBA or CFA exams preferred
  • Prior experience with financial modeling required
  • Strong technical, writing and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Bloomberg and Excel
