The Sr. Application Development Manager will have an established track record delivering new designs and technologies for strategic business partners. This position requires a motivated individual with strong technical ability, leadership, customer relationship management, communication skills and administration capabilities, who excels at driving delivery. The Senior Application Development Manager will be integral to delivery of key projects and initiatives that set the future direction of the organization's businesses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transformation
    • Drive our systems transformation strategy and energize teams to focus towards that vision
    • Demonstrate forward thinking innovation utilizing digital technologies with a focus on automation and the target of system error elimination
    • Invoke innovation and change where applicable and influence stakeholders support
    • Assess and recommend appropriately buy vs. build solutions
  • Business Strategy
    • Understand business strategy and how to best utilize technology to drive the platforms towards that strategy
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders about business strategy
    • Gain knowledge on how the business wins and move towards showing how IT contributes
  • Approach
    • Clear ability to think strategically and to articulate direction accordingly
    • Have view of new technologies and how they can be used to help the business win
    • Define development tools and approach, requirements, specifications, deliverables and implementation
    • Work closely within local/global technology teams to provide optimization of development activities, delivery and ultimate outcome.
    • Direct development staff and the development process
    • Work within the established SDLC process to deliver consistent results
    • Work closely with the IT PMO and IT OPS to drive effective execution & delivery
    • Prioritize work appropriately to achieve development goals while demonstrating flexibility
    • Effectively work within a global IT environment requiring collaboration across multiple divisions
  • Leadership
    • Demonstrated leadership capability, including strong coaching and mentoring skills
    • Proven ability to mentor/coach staff to maximize their potential
    • Proven ability to manage team performance
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively with C-level management
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Proven ability to understand/influence stakeholder expectations and effectively adjust approach
    • Proven ability to work effectively with the peer IT teams to ensure strategies are moving forward
    • Foster strong relationships with the local and global business and IT stakeholders to drive ideas to reality

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development and data architecture
  • Strong understanding of latest trends in the software development industry, including Cloud, Mobility, and Data Analytics technologies
  • Key technologies : Markit EDM, Data Warehouse, SOA, APIs, ETL, BI, BPM
  • Understanding of tools used within a Microsoft development environment (C#, .NET framework, ASP .NET, SQL, XML, Java, etc.)
  • 5+ years experience in the financial industry
  • 5+ years experience managing application development teams
  • Knowledge of Investment Management Business desirable
  • Proven experience in Agile and RAD methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively challenge the status quo where applicable
  • Excellent track record of project delivery of large, complex, integrated projects
  • Proven history of setting achievable goals and delivering both functional and timely outcomes
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to both highly technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong team building and staff development through mentoring, collaboration and partnership
  • B.S in Computer Science or related field
