You can use your quantitative skills in a small-team environment while starting at a higher level than in a purely analytical role, allowing you to build off things others have done and profit from their expertise.

Job Description

Where can you utilize your unparalleled technical talent and continue to learn new skills?  Spark offers the chance to hone your existing technical skills, to have real engagement with our business, and to try out new areas of interest.

You can use your quantitative skills in a small-team environment while starting at a higher level than in a purely analytical role, allowing you to build off things others have done and profit from their expertise.

This position uses and enhances your technical as well as your more multifaceted skills, so it is superior both in starting compensation and long-term potential.

An algorithmic trading setup consists of three parts: the prediction of securities’ movement, portfolio selection, and the infrastructure to put in the trades.  As the Quantitative Trader, you will learn about and develop your capabilities in all three areas of our system.  You’ll work with traders, other quants, partners, and possibly strategic vendors.  You will develop expertise in computerized trading to globalize and expand our operation.

As the Quantitative Trader, you will work toward implementing quantitative solutions and ideas for real-world results.  You may even sit on the trading desk for a period of time to learn more about how trading strategies are executed in reality, an experience which will help you to make models that are more efficacious.  If you use all of your skills from the practical to the creative, you can out-smart and out-earn any PhD headed to a Wall Street firm by building your skill base and by tackling the more interesting and difficult projects our entrepreneurial environment has to offer.  If you can bring high-level technical skills and a strong work ethic, along with a desire to improve your general skills, we can help you succeed.

Job Qualifications

If you

  • are good with computers but don’t want to be a pure programmer;
  • have the communication and listening skills to work with people in different areas and blend those inputs into focused projects and hypotheses;
  • and have exceptional quantitative skills,

then you are a rare breed, and you can polish all your skills while developing even further at Spark and earning more than in other institutional or proprietary trading opportunities.  As the quantitative trading sector matures, the difficulty of inventing the strategies increases.  In addition, the length of time from strategy conception to significant revenue generation has increased from months to years.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to generate significant revenue from already profitable strategies without having to first spend years sitting on the sidelines.  Because you will be involved with trading and we value your quantitative and computer skills as well as your other abilities, this opportunity is superior both in starting compensation and long-term potential.  This position requires a PhD.  When you submit your resume, please include your GPAs and standardized test scores.  If you have awards or medals in mathematical or scientific competitions, be sure to include those in your application materials.
