Team Overview
This role is part of the newly created Retail Distribution Analytics (RDA) team at BlackRock. RDA's mission is to dramatically transform BlackRock's current retail distribution strategy and performance around the globe, by enabling sales team deepen and expand BlackRock's relationships with Advisors & Home Offices through strategic sales analytics, big data and cutting edge technology tools & applications. The team currently consists of ~40 people primarily located in New York, Princeton and San Francisco and has ambitious expansion plans for the near and medium term.

We are seeking a talented Associate or Analyst with strong strategic, sales and analytical acumen to support our efforts. The work is expected to combine project leadership - working with our Sales, Marketing, Product, Portfolio Construction and Technology partners - as well as an important analytical/quantitative component to help our distribution teams optimize sales/marketing tactics (including traditional and digital sales engagement), refine/develop client segmentation, develop product campaigns, and more broadly assess the efficacy of a variety of distribution initiatives.

Top technical skills and statistical analysis - in particular Excel/SQL - are a must. Given the highly execution-focused nature of the work, the ideal candidate will roll up their sleeves to ensure the project meets its deadlines. Experience to lay out a project schedule, understand dependencies and coordinate resources around those tasks is also important for the role.

Role Responsibility

  • Understand current Sales and Marketing processes, campaigns, tactics and key initiatives
  • Support strategic initiatives and own end-to-end responsibility for driving business impact, from problem definition, running key analytics, preparing presentation for senior stakeholders/sales teams, managing relationships with key partners and relentlessly driving adoption of new tools, methodologies, framework by our sales & distribution teams
  • Generate innovative sales lead signals to aid the selling process and work with business partners to implement the solutions
  • Apply statistical/econometric modeling tools to develop predictive models and support sales and marketing campaigns in acquisition, retention and cross-selling
  • Work with databases and other internal data platforms to extract customer information and profile customer behavior
  • Build and present sophisticated, insightful analytics and presentations
  • 2-4 years of professional experience; a variety of backgrounds can be considered for the role including, but not limited to: quantitative analyst, capital market sales, financial services investment banking and management consulting at a top tier firm
  • BA or BS required; major in Economics, Business, Finance, Computer Science or related fields preferred
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
  • Comfort manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
  • Skilled in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Micro Strategy, etc
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
  • A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision
  • Excellent presentation skills (oral and written). Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Demonstrated experience with project leadership and interaction with various business constituencies to drive towards execution.
  • Fluency or desire to become quickly fluent with at least one scripting language such as Python, Java, etc and with analysis tools such as R, Stata or Matlab
  • Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (e.g., Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.)
  • Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of issues
  • Knowledge of the retail asset management industry and key datasets (e.g., Market Metrics, Broadridge / Albridge Analytics/Discovery) preferred but not required
