Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) is a worldwide organization charged with delivering technology infrastructure - end user, compute, data, transport, instrumentation and facilities - to all lines of business in all regions of the world in JPMorgan Chase.

The Global Compute Services (GCS) Automation Team is a brand new team being built out to help GTI in its journey to modernizing compute services management, and is responsible for driving the automation strategy and execution for GCS. The team partners with each GCS domain (Network, Compute, Storage, PaaS, etc) to deliver a data-driven, software-defined, straight-through provisioned environment which expands and contracts at the speed of the business need.

As a Senior Automation DevOps Lead working in GCS's Automation Team,
you will build a DevOps team that act as the intersection between Dev, QA, Ops through integration, communication and automation. The goal is to be the
custodian of the applications and its environment. This leader is expected to have a track record of managing quality technology services within a fast-moving environment and the ability to lead by example, build the team and develop the staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing infrastructure or operational automation technologies that improve consistency and reduce manual tasks
  • Analyze existing service offerings and recommend modifications which will enhance operating capacity and meet business requirements
  • Proactively look for opportunities to streamline the process and implement process improvements to help the team members effectively execute their tasks
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause determination efforts and proactively identify opportunities to fix issues interface with engineering and operations teams and other peer groups to drive collaboration to ensure the project tasks are being worked on most effectively
  • Automate environment build (SIT, UAT, Prod) & maintain SIT environments
  • Development of operational tools

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Perl with a strong base in design and development
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience building scalable, fault tolerant infrastructure software or distributed systems, preferably in a Unix or Linux platform
  • Experience in ITIL and IT change management
  • Experience in Production/ Operational Support, incident management
  • Build and manage onshore/offshore teams
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP
  • Strong understanding of the web services industry, highly scalable web servers and caching servers, REST and SOAP, etc.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Focus on customers, ownership, operations and the ability to deliver results
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of networking basics: network topology, global/local load balancing, firewalls, etc.
  • Experience with building large scale systems using technologies such as Django web framework, Message Queues (QPID, RabbitMQ), Distributed Task Processors (Google AppEngine TaskQueue, Celery)
  • Networking, internet, and operating system security fundamentals
  • Knowledge of system performance optimization strategies and experience with hands-on empirical monitoring
  • Understanding of databases
  • High level of proficiency debugging and analyzing complex software systems, including a willingness to deep-dive into all layers of the technology stack
  • Experience in delivery cloud technology
