The Principal, Transactional Control is responsible for key business and technology initiatives related to the management and processing of accounting transactions that will directly impact the balances of client accounts.   Many of the initiatives include working in a team setting and communicating regularly with other groups within Portfolio Services, Client Services, the Global Relationship Group, Portfolio Management, and Fixed Income and Equity Trading. The Principal interacts in a highly professional environment with experienced individuals and will have the opportunity to be involved in both short-term tactical assignments and various long-term strategic projects.  The Principal will have key partnerships and interactions with individuals not only within Transactional Control team, but across all aspects of Portfolio Accounting as it relates to inputs to client accounts.
Job Description
The Principal, Transactional Control is a senior position responsible for guiding the continuous development of our transaction processing capabilities to create efficiencies and ensure that we can provide our investors with timely and accurate positions, market values and cash balances to be incorporated into their investment decisions.  Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding through daily oversight of all primary Transactional Control workflows including FX reconciliation and execution, cash processing, overdraft monitoring, custodian capstock feeds monitoring, expense processing etc.
  • Strategically review our transaction processing capabilities and make recommendations on areas where we need additional development
  • Assess outsourced services to ensure we have the appropriate capabilities developed in-house versus outsourced
  • Lead and participate in both small and large initiatives related to cash management including the processing of cash flows/capstock transactions and foreign exchange (FX) transactions
  • Work with key partners across the firm to assess non-working currency balance related processes and help develop new workflows to more efficiently manage cash balances and provide appropriate transparency to investors
  • Assess and create control reports to allow for efficient and independent workflow management
  • Participate in cross-functional working groups to define effective solutions to complex business challenges and/or process improvements
  • Provide guidance and expertise to Business Analysts and IT regarding development requirements for accounting initiatives
The successful candidate for this role must have a college degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the financial services industry with working knowledge of investment, and custodian bank, cash management.  An advanced degree or CFA is a plus.  The individual must be well organized, resourceful, motivated and have the ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities.  The candidate will have strong and demonstrated communication and project management skills.  Other important qualifications and experience would include:
  • Extensive custody and accounting / recordkeeping experience
  • Knowledge of foreign exchange transactions and their impact on recordkeeping
  • Solid understanding of investment management operations and support practices
  • Broad knowledge of capital markets
  • Ability to think with vision and communicate concisely
  • Proven track record of initiating and managing change utilizing strong business judgment, risk analysis skills and risk mitigation techniques
  • Demonstrate strong business judgment, including the ability to synthesize multiple complex issues and effectively balance competing objectives
  • Excellent organizational, interpretation and decision making skills
  • Ability to partner effectively with others
  • Well-developed interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Dedicated, highly motivated and passionate professional with a strong service and investment orientation
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism
