Position Summary
BlackRock is a recognized leader within the defined contribution (DC) market, managing over $600 billion in DC assets. In order to maintain the firm's leadership position and to meet growth objectives in this market, BlackRock seeks to recruit a highly experienced sales professional and relationship manager to help manage and develop the West Coast region of this business.

The individual will be responsible for marketing directly to large and mega plan sponsors, as well as servicing existing clients. This will involve developing new prospects as well as leveraging the deep and well-established relationships in the defined benefit market to cross sell BlackRock's capabilities across all investment classes. The individual will market a full range of investment options including equity, fixed income, target date, and index funds.

The ideal candidate will have deep technical fluency and extensive knowledge of the DC market, across investments, plan design, regulatory matters, distribution, and recordkeeping and broad and deep contacts within the DC plan sponsor and consultant space. Emphasis will be placed on the quality and depth of relationships with plan sponsor decision makers, as well as direct sales and relationship management experience with the large/mega plan sponsor market.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the West Coast sales team and business strategy, with accountability for DC account management within the region.
  • Manage key relationships within the region, raise assets from new and existing clients, and provide best-in-class client service.
  • Collaborate with other account executives across BlackRock (including Pensions, Cash, Financial Institutions, Consultant Relations, etc.), to develop opportunities and manage relationships with large/mega plan sponsors.
  • Work closely with BlackRock investment professionals to support the development of innovative products/solutions to meet the changing needs of plan sponsors in the DC market.
  • Develop and drive new opportunities from beginning to end: initial pitch, finals presentations, client onboarding, ongoing account reviews and client service.
  • Play a key leadership role within the DC business in San Francisco and the business broadly, representing key initiatives within the firm.

Ideal Qualifications
  • Minimum 10+ years in a DC sales and client service role with a leading retirement services firm.
  • Extensive experience with DC plan sponsors (ideally large/mega sponsors) and a proven track record of growing revenues.
  • Deep knowledge of DC industry trends, regulation and operations.
  • Experience covering the West Coast market is highly preferred.
  • Strong investment acumen and a high degree of fluency and comfort in structuring and positioning investment solutions for DC plan sponsors. Understands value-added consultative interactions that extend beyond specific products.
  • Multi-asset experience, including target date funds, is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a significant leadership capacity.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 required.
  • An undergraduate degree is required and an MBA, other advanced degree, or CFA are preferred.
