Associate Analyst 1

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA

The AA1 will provide insightful, local government credit analysis and thought leading written research for Moody's California Local Government Team.

Role/Responsibilities:

•Quantitative and qualitative analysis of local government credit quality, including key factors of economy, finances, management, and debt and other long-term obligations.
•Developing in-depth knowledge of the state and specific sectors.
•Building relationships with investors, underwriters and issuers and managing key strategic relationships.
•Writing of high quality research on individual bond issues, news events that affect credit, and sector trends.
•Moderate travel to meet with local government issuers is also expected.

Team:
Moody's Local Government Ratings teams are located in multiple geographic offices throughout the U.S. and are responsible for assigning accurate and timely credit ratings to debt securities issued by local government entities in the region, as well as on-going monitoring of credit developments and credit quality of such securities. The teams are part of Moody's US Public Finance Department, which is responsible for all credit ratings in the US state, local government and not-for profit sectors. The Associate Analyst 1 position will be located in San Francisco and will be part of a highly collaborative team consisting of ten credit professionals.

Qualifications:

•Undergraduate and graduate degrees required; MBA, MPA, MPP or similar degree preferred.
•Knowledge of public sector accounting, municipal finance, economics and statistics.
•Strong quantitative aptitude and demonstrated analytical ability.
•Excellent interpersonal, communication and research skills required.
•Ability to manage multiple priority tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
•Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
•A minimum of two years relevant experience in credit analysis, financial markets, and/or government administration is preferred.
•Government budgeting or public finance industry experience a plus.
