The Principal, Operational Strategy and Planning has responsibility for the monitoring, analysis and modelling of the Bank's investment operation portfolio and pipeline, providing key inputs to EBRD planning processes and support to business decision-making.

The Principal, Operational Strategy and Planning has responsibility for the monitoring, analysis and modelling of the Bank's investment operation portfolio and pipeline, providing key inputs to EBRD planning processes and support to business decision-making.

The role involves the development of scenarios using complex modelling techniques to forecast future portfolio development supported by analysis of portfolio dynamics and trends. Under the guidance of OSP management, the job holder translates strategic orientations into operational objectives for the EBRD's institutional scorecard, cascades these to Banking teams in order to ensure delivery of the Bank's operational objectives, and provides an assessment of team performance relative to scorecard objectives as part of the annual performance assessment exercise. The role also provides statistical data, management information and analysis of investment operation activity to staff, management, the Board of Directors, and external audiences.

Background
The OSP team within the Client Services Group supports the MD Operational Strategy and Planning and collaborates closely with Banking Management to provide the management information, analysis and planning needed to support decision making and the formulation and delivery of the Bank's operational objectives. The Operational Strategy and Planning function has a team of around 5 staff covering the following areas:

* provision of regular and ad-hoc management information;
* production of analytical material related to the Bank's pipeline and portfolio and investment operations;
* Banking activity planning, portfolio modelling and what-if scenarios;
* team performance monitoring and scorecards;
* reporting of the Bank's activity to external audiences; and
* data management and systems support for the Banking department. 


Accountabilities & Responsibilities
* Responsibility for the Bank's portfolio projections in support of SCF, SIP, Bank-wide Stress Test and Liquidity review. Development of scenarios using complex modelling techniques to forecast future portfolio development supported by analysis of portfolio dynamics and trends.
* Maintenance and development of the Portfolio Modelling tool to support short to long term operational projections.
* Monitor key developments in the Bank's pipeline and portfolio of investment operations to allow effective and timely decision making on the Bank's strategic orientations.
* Active monitoring of business plan execution, reviewing directly with Banking and portfolio management teams as necessary.
* Establish and maintain strong communication channels with the Budget and Financial Planning department to ensure proper reflection of operational projections in the Bank's financial planning. Active monitoring of the Bank's statutory and economic capital utilisation ensuring sufficient capital adequacy to support the Bank's operational objectives over the medium-term.
* Support the production of portfolio and pipeline analytics, identifying and developing themes in support of monthly strategy meeting between President, First Vice-President and MD Operational Strategy and Planning, and the quarterly FVP operational report to Board.
* Assess operational, transition financial and portfolio management matters throughout the year to evaluate Banking teams against their scorecard parameters and produce the annual assessment of the performance and contribution of individual Banking teams relative to the delivery of the Bank's Business Plan objectives.
* Lead role in production of operational sections of Quarterly Performance Report.
* Motivate, train and develop direct report within agreed policies and practices to maintain strong employee engagement and support achievement of team objectives.



Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience
* Proven track record in modelling, business planning and management information roles within ‘blue chip' or professional organisations.
* First class numerical and analytical skills with the ability to analyse and interpret large datasets and ability to identify interpret and communicate business trends.
* Expertise in creating and maintaining forecast models to support senior management decision process in a strategic context.
* Extensive experience of data mining (preferably using Tableau and Cognos tools), relational and multidimensional databases.
* Strong IT skillset with superior knowledge of Excel (advanced formulae, macros, VBA).
* Capable of synthesising qualitative and quantitative data to support management messages.
* Experience of performance management and balanced scorecards.
* Strong presentation and document drafting skills.
* Ability to build relationships and interact effectively and autonomously across an organisation at a senior level.


Qualifications
* Degree / professional qualification from a leading university or equivalent work experience.
