We have been mandated to source a talented and experienced COO to join an exciting new hedge fund launch. The individuals behind this venture have extensive expertise and an excellent track record in their niche field. They are looking to bring on board a COO who would have both start up hedge fund experience, along with having gained exposure at working within a more institutional business during his/her career. There will be a heavy emphasis of investing across both liquid and illiquid credit assets, so it is of importance that the COO will have hands on experience within these products.

The initial remit will be focused around vendor selection, and once the fund is launched the COO will be expected to take on a more hands role across the business, including ownership over all regulatory aspects from day one. There will likely be one other individual working across the non-investment functions in the firm.

An outline of some of the responsibilities include:

  • Perform due diligence on service providers and in turn select the most suitable partners prior to launch
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new operating procedures across the business
  • Have full responsibility for the day to day operations function
  • Daily P&L reporting and risk monitoring oversight
  • Manage all running costs of the business
  • Daily liquidity and treasury monitoring including the relevant hedging calculations when required
  • Manage all administrator, accounting, auditor and bank relationships
  • Liaise with external accountants and compliance consultants on all regulatory requirements
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management reporting information, including revenue recognition and cash flow projections
  • Manage the payment of all fees including the likes of management and performance fees etc.
  • Act as Compliance and Money Laundering Officer (CF10 and 11)
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments across the industry

  • Degree educated
  • An accountancy qualification is advantageous
  • Specific experience from within the credit space is a necessity as the fund will be investing across illiquid and distressed assets
  • Enthusiastic and a good team player
  • Logical thinker and problem solver
  • Good communication skills
  • Very high level of attention to detail
  • Good analytical ability
  • Organised with good time management
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (VBA a bonus)
  • Sooner availability is a plus due to an anticipated launch of early Q2 2017
