Business Unit Overview:


BlackRock's EMEA Retail business employs c.200 people with over $200bn assets under management. EMEA Retail is primarily a wholesale business providing cross-border solutions to intermediaries who serve the full spectrum of privately-owned wealth across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our clients are predominantly global and multi-national banks, wealth managers and insurers focused on delivering discretionary investment management and financial advisory services to private investors.

Job Purpose/Background:


The position is a key function within the EMEA Retail Business Strategy & COO Team, responsible for the day-to-day business and risk management for the EMEA Retail business. The role will bring the individual into regular contact with senior stakeholders and being comfortable in these circles while providing subject matter detail is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the strategy and objectives of the EMEA Retail business and be able to translating these into workable plans to driving delivery across the department
  • Develop and maintain business management tools in relation to effective risk management
  • Develop and manage the relationship with key partner functions including, Legal, Compliance, RQA and Internal Audit
  • Develop and manage continuous improvement initiatives aligned to critical business controls across sales and servicing teams, documenting clear and effective proecdures for the business to follow
  • Manage and execute specific projects relating to the effective governance and control of the EMEA Retail business eg legal, compliance or risk-oriented process improvements and changes to the business operating model
  • Manage, monitor and drive adherence of the EMEA Retail function to key risk and compliance policies and procedures eg AIFMD, Reverse Solicitation, Cross-Border Distribution and Sales marketing compliance
  • Work with key stakeholders within and outside EMEA Retail to ensure that the departments Risk & Control Self-Assessments are complete and updated periodically to manage key risks to the business
  • Manage and monitor the department's Conflicts of Interest register and ensure effective controls remain in place to mitigate all conflicts of interest within the department
  • Implement recommendations and improvements resulting from Internal Audits and Compliance Thematic Reviews
  • Working with Operational Risk to develop the Regional operating events and client complaints registration processes, as well as onward communication to Compliance and Op Risk
  • Manage business continuity plans, access controls and other day-to-day business management tasks in conjunction with the COO
  • Work with COO team to maintain and develop disciplined pricing governance framework, ensuring appropriate liaison with external parties e.g. Principal Distributor Office
  • Oversight of business expense and headcount budget and effective execution of in conjunction with business finance, identifying efficiencies and redeployment of resources to meet evolving needs of business
  • Ensure appropriate controls and governance around key EMEA Retail management information tools e/g/ Spectra/CRM policies

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Significant work experience, preferably with some experience within BlackRock
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the asset management industry, with a particular focus on risk, regulatory and legal frameworks relating to Retail fund distribution
  • Strong project management capabilities with a keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to design, develop and draft process and procedural documents
  • Strong relationship management, presentation and influencing skills
  • Legal or Compliance background / experience preferable
Skills/Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level with strong academic credentials
  • Good research and data management skills
  • Strong drafting skills
  • Professional level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook)
  • European languages desirable
