Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock offers access to a spectrum of alternative investments amounting to more than $100 billion of assets - including hedge funds, fund of hedge funds/hedge fund solutions, commodities & currencies, fund of private equity/private equity solutions, real estate, infrastructure, illiquid credit, opportunistic strategies and multi-alternative solutions, all organized under BlackRock Alternative Investors (BAI). Alternative Solutions is the division in BAI that develops and manages multi-alternative investment portfolios for clients.

Role Overview:

The Alternative Solutions team is seeking a VP-level Portfolio Manager who will become a key member of a team of investment professionals responsible for investment activity across opportunistic and diversified multi-alternative mandates.

Job Purpose/Background:

  • Investment management of custom alternative portfolios: asset allocation, tactical portfolio construction, hedging, and other investment activity across alternative investment strategies, capital structures, and liquidity horizons
  • Idea generation - research investment themes, identify and generate attractive risk-adjusted investment opportunities across alternative strategies for our clients' portfolios
  • Underwriting and financial analysis - in partnership with other investment teams at BlackRock, perform transaction-level / strategy-level analysis of investments and trade ideas for our client's portfolios
  • Investment monitoring - Oversee valuations, analytics, and cash flows on an ongoing basis for our investments
  • Client analysis and presentations - provide timely and thoughtful analysis to clients about our investments, views on prospective opportunities, and impact on clients' portfolios
  • Talent development - help to mentor and train junior members of portfolio management team
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Broad industry work experience in alternative investments across capital structure and with multiple alternative illiquid asset classes
  • Strong experience with direct investment/transactions or co-investments from investor/PM role
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills for senior client and internal audiences
  • Team player with demonstrated skill in forging strong industry and internal partnerships
  • Highly organized individual able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
