Role description To keep pace with and respond to regulatory developments in the financial services sector, Deloitte has established the EMEA Centre for Regulatory Strategy (ECRS). The ECRS is a source of expertise for clients and Deloitte practitioners on the direction and impact of regulatory change across the financial services industry and its implications for business models and strategies. Eminence and insights are at the heart of Deloitte’s client strategy, and the ECRS is a critical part of delivering that.

The team is international in outlook. Based in London and Frankfurt, it has representatives from 15 European countries in its network, and maintains close links to its counterpart centres in the US and Asia Pacific. The ECRS achieves its goal by producing distinctive thought leadership, developing an early warning capability to spot emerging regulatory and supervisory issues, and by offering targeted commercial support, working with practitioners across EMEA and in the US, Asia and Australia.

In response to the growing demand for the ECRS’s expertise, we are looking for a new Associate/Senior Associate to join our team in London. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing analysis of current and emerging regulatory topics and support the delivery of those insights through client presentations and projects. The candidate will work across all sectors: banking, capital markets, insurance and investment management.

Working for the ECRS provides an outstanding opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of major regulatory initiatives and a holistic view of financial services regulation and policy at the international, European and national levels; to build an understanding of the strategic impact of those regulations on institutions and the sectors; and to develop strong analytical and problem solving skills. The nature of the ECRS’ work brings the team close to decision makers and opinion formers in industry and the regulatory sector.

Successful applicants will work closely with other members of the ECRS, including the senior management team, and with Deloitte practitioners in the UK and across Deloitte’s European network. The role includes the following tasks and responsibilities:

analysis of new and existing regulations, relations between them, and the implications for the industry

assistance with producing client presentations and briefings

monitoring of regulatory news and publications, including preparation of short summaries that draw out the key implications for clients and the industry

supporting the development of ECRS products, such as thought leadership papers and blogs, and client offerings

delivering presentations, including within the team and to Deloitte practitioners

other tasks commensurate with the grade and the nature of the post

The Associate will be given responsibility early on in their career and will have direct exposure to both external and Deloitte senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate for the role will have:

A demonstrated interest in working on financial services regulation and policy, and/or in the financial services industry

First degree or 2:1, preferably in Economics / Finance / Business Studies / Law / Maths or Politics, or a clearly articulated motivation for moving into this sector from a different discipline

And be able to evidence:

Structured approach to analysis, and the ability to think critically and on their feet

Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to build rapport

Work experience (including unpaid work experience and internships) in financial services or another sector

Effective research skills, and good time management and planning skills

Ability to take a flexible approach to take a wide range of tasks and prioritise them effectively

Accountability and reliability; being a self-starter

Good presentation skills
