This position provides primary coverage of Asia EM, with a special focus on China, and macro backup for G10 markets

The position will also be able to support the global EM team, providing backup for markets/regions/events outside of scope of primary coverage if/when necessity arises. While not the main scope of the role, this position will be able to assist regional sales and traders by promoting the views of strategy colleagues covering US, EU, UK and Japan markets. The position will be able to carry out an A-Z analysis of the primary markets assigned, including forecasting of main macro variables (GDP, CPI, C/A, fiscal, etc.); the assessment of monetary policy and benchmark policy rate forecast; FX forecasting (vs USD) on a rolling eight-quarter basis in conjunction with the input from other teams; generate and communicate FX trade ideas; and, in due course, learn to structure FI/rates views and trade ideas.  The candidate will coordinate with internal stakeholders and peers from other teams in order to gather and collate all relevant information to form his/her views on the markets of interest. The candidate will also write such views/trade recommendations on research publications and will contribute to co-authored and team publications.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Provide comprehensive views and forecasts on primary coverage markets (Asia EM, especially China).
  • Provides backup coverage of G10 markets, especially being able to communicate house views to clients.
  • Assist the EM Strategy Team in building the global strategic view and cross-market analysis/trade ideas.
  • Provide comprehensive views on monetary policy for primary coverage markets, including forecasting benchmark policy rates.
  • Build up valuation and forecasting models to generate trade ideas, including relative value ones. Advise clients of key information that they may use in making their own investment decisions. 
  • Develop and encourage working relationships with the global sales and trading teams. 
  • Inform traders on an ad hoc basis of market trends from economic data and central bank meetings.
  • The role requires flexible business hours, often requiring early starts to capture events in various time zones.

Qualifications/Skill Sets

  • Degree with Economics, Banking, Statistics &/or Finance majors required.
  • 7 - 8 years of relevant experience, knowledge of EM Asia and China in particular. Also capable of understanding main trends in G10 markets. Additional market knowledge is a plus.
  • Highly motivated and committed with positive attitude. Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision
  • Good team player and able to communicate well with staff of all levels and within the global network
  • Excellent written and oral communication, planning, problem solving and organizing skills
  • IT literacy – Microsoft Office – advanced Excel skills essential. VBA proficiency is a big plus. Advanced Bloomberg capabilities. Programming languages such are not required but will be considered a plus.


  • Responsible for ensuring full coverage of EM Asia and backup for G10 markets. Locally reporting to the Asia Head of Strategy, functionally to (NYC) within the EM Strategy Team.
  • Responsible for ensuring a high level of communication and transparency with Local Manager and Functional Manager.
  • Responsible for escalating any operational issues to the Local Manager.
