Position Overview

Role Description - Summary:

The Regulatory Risk & Control Specialist is responsible for delivering specific aspects of the risk and control strategy for their own division. The incumbent is responsible for the design and execution of risk and control initiatives and processes including operational risk programmes and legal/regulatory programmes. The role is also responsible for the identification and tasking of in-depth analysis of risk clusters and potential strategic resolution, targeting the optimal point of risk-cost-ratio.

The incumbent defines risk tolerance together with line management and monitors the overall adherence to the risk and control strategy. In addition, the person will design, implement and monitor components of the control environment and ensure continuous improvement based on divisional and best practice standards.

Where appropriate, the Regulatory Risk & Control Specialist manages and oversees remediation projects as a member of the respective steering committee and/or working group and has responsibility for the quality of project execution and outcomes. The incumbent will liaise with other central functions regularly, including all audit related items, on a management level to ensure all audit points are tracked, reported and resolved as per Audit Governance framework.


  • Ensure all audit items raised are tracked, reported and monitored in a timely manner and no RED flags are raised against the function
  • Responsible for chairing the internal risk meetings and tracking action items post meetings
  • Key contact for global teams in the region for all Risk & audit related matters
  • Ensure complete Audit Governance and compliance to all risk related framework for all Technology projects
  • Manages regulatory risk and control programmes in line with the defined risk tolerance and approach including regulatory risk and control self assessment, KRI implementation/validation.
  • Responsible for completion of quality assurance assessments, e.g. in preparation for upcoming audits, and/or execution of legal/ regulatory or Group programmes
  • Proactively manages internal and external audit processes. Validates factual correctness of issues and individual management action plans for quality
  • Initiates independent reviews to identify, highlight and document risk issues and ensures follow up
  • Advises senior stakeholders on the set-up and execution of risk programmes and outcomes
  • Managers feedback to regulatory risk and control-related policies/standards and initiates change where needed
  • Responsible for accurate reporting from range of source tools and systems on a regular and ad-hoc basis

  • Degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent)
  • Certification from any local regulatory body (or equivalent) preferred
  • 6-Sigma Green Belt Certification, preferred

  • Relevant experience in Project Management
  • Relevant experience in a minimum of two of the following fields: operational risk management, regulatory programme management, information security, data protection, quality management (CMMI, ITIL or 6-Sigma)
  • General financial markets experience
  • Excellent analytical skills to evaluate problem, root cause and inform/test resolution
  • Excellent team worker, able to work in virtual global teams in a matrix organization
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and keep pace with technical/operational innovation
  • Good communication skills, fluent in English (written/verbal) and local language as appropriate
