To support the EDS team in its objectives through a mix of following activities:
* Study data attributes values to ascertain that they comply with their intended purposes
* Analyze key attributes to verify feasibility of joining with other data under current data integration strategy
* Assess current state of data quality and propose DQ assurance recommendations
* Support testing activities to validate correct implementation of data models and corresponding ETL programs.
* Develop scripts and SQL queries to support various data extraction, acceptance testing and data quality validation requirements.

All of the above will involve the use of one or more data platforms and technologies (e.g., Teradata, Hadoop (Hortonworks), SAS, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, etc)

Key Roles and Responsibilities

3 major key responsibilities are (inclusive but not exhaustive):
1) Profiling of data against data requirements, document observations and propose remediating actions for data quality issues.
2) Plan and execute acceptance testing to validate correct implementation of data models and corresponding ETL programs.
3) Support of ad-hoc data extraction requests.

1) Data Profiling
All technology projects in the bank are ultimately about data. For all such projects and particularly those related to the EDM datawarehouse programme, the EDS data analysts (data profiling specialist) will be expected to support individual projects by:

* Analyze data requirements that were extracted and distilled from BRDs and determine the appropriate approach to profiling data attributes, according to attribute criticality, data type, and consumers' expectations.
* Document profiling approach for each attribute in a Data Profiling Requirements (DPR) document.
* Coordinate with appropriate support teams for sourcing of data for profiling purpose.
* Analyze outputs generated by data profiling software tools.
* Investigate specific observations through custom SQL scripts, if necessary.
* Document observations from data profiling results covering aspects on data quality and data consistency
* Initiating (but not executing) data cleansing where necessary
* Proposing data quality validation rules and data quality maintenance where appropriate

2) Acceptance Testing
For projects under the EDM program, the EDS team would perform acceptance testing to ascertain quality of data processing (ETL/ELT) programs and jobs, validate implementation of the data model, and to confirm that quality of data is suitable for consumption.

3) Ad-Hoc Data Extraction
There are occasional demands of certain specific data to be available quickly. These one-off demands require custom SQL scripts to be developed and executed quickly for the required data to be available to meet business needs.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications * Degree in Accounting, Statistics, or Computer Science specializing in Information Management, or equivalent Technical skills This is mainly a technical role in the EDS team. Candidates possess in-depth knowledge and substantial work experience in the following skills will be preferred. * Prior experience of data analysis and profiling work * Intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills in SQL for accessing major relational databases (including DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, and Teradata) * Intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills in developing and modifying shell scripts (Linux, AIX, SUN, etc) * Experience of working with the Hadoop data platform (Hortonworks) and familiar with use of different data components such as Hive and Hbase. * Experience of working with data profiling and metadata tools (eg. IBM InfoSphere, Ab Initio, Trillium, Oracle EDQ) * Knowledge of Logical data modelling concepts, and ideally some practical experience Domain knowledge Candidates with work experience in the finance and banking domain would be advantage. Understanding of data being used in different banking domains would be necessary for correct interpretation of data profiling results. Senior data analyst may be required to lead 2 - 3 direct reports (if required to).
