Team Description:

The Business Management team in APAC supports the overall management of the Active Investments business, including strategic planning, budgeting, reviewing & improving business processes, supporting new products / instruments, liaising with technology & operations departments, and providing key management reporting to senior leadership.

The VP of Business Management reports to the COO of APAC Active Investments and the Japan CIO, and will be responsible for coordinating and responding to all internal and external requests and acting on behalf of APAC Active Investments leadership in Japan.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: understanding and managing all aspects of the Japan investment business, partnering with the APAC Active Investments COO and Japan CIO to drive the business agenda and deliver on strategic initiatives, providing front-to-back oversight of all non-investment operations, communicating and driving platform objectives and process, representing the investment team and serving as proxy for team lead.

This position is a multi-faceted role which requires interaction with senior management, and a strong working knowledge of Fixed Income, Equities, and Multi-Asset, and its respective teams and product offerings.


  • Support APAC Active Investment management in Japan on various initiatives ensuring timely delivery and quality execution of projects in line with management expectations:
  • Defining and Driving Business Strategy - establish objectives and focus areas for the business and develop action plans to build the bridge between current and future state
  • Financials - support the management of budget and headcount
  • Technology - collaborate with internal business partners to identify and facilitate technology enhancements which address the evolving needs of the business
  • Strategic Initiatives & New Products - work closely with senior management on key projects, strategic initiatives and new product launches
  • Ad hoc Requests - assist team with data requests, trainings and demos, business continuity efforts, etc.
  • Operational risk - drive discussions around operating events and process improvements to help mitigate operational risk
  • Policy & Process - promote and provide necessary training on firm, business and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Projects - Act as lead on projects for the Japan investment platform that relate to portfolio management, trade and post trade operations, investment process analysis and business process analyses
  • Presentations and Meetings - aid management in organizing and preparing presentations

Skills & Qualifications:
  • 8 plus years of experience in financial services with knowledge of fixed income and equities, product development, business strategy and /or business management functions
  • Spoken and written fluency in Japanese language
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or related field; MBA a plus
  • Progress towards or participation in the CFA program a plus
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Visio a plus
  • A strong understanding of capital markets and fixed income; ability to recognize different issue types and structures as they relate to portfolio management and trading
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills including ability to function effectively within a fast-paced environment and ability to multitask
  • Proven track record in delivering on major projects
  • Strong financial and quantitative abilities, including attention to detail and affinity for data analysis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to deliver presentations and coordinate across the region
  • Sound judgment, professionalism and discretion
  • Ability to function effectively under tight deadlines and constraints
