Operational Risk Management

Operational Risk Management sits within the Risk Division and is the second line of defence challenging the operational risk activities carried out by the IB Business Divisions and Shared Services functions globally. 

 

Responsibilities:

The Operational Risk manager will be responsible for:

  • Independent oversight, review and challenge of the Prime Services business activities front to back in partnership with the relevant shared services functions and Prime Services management.
  • Assist, review, challenge and provide quality assurance for the Prime Services Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process at the sub-unit and entity level partnering with ORM regionally and globally.
  • Incident reviews, thematic reviews and business reviews as required throughout the year with clear descriptions, recommendations and read across to lessons learned for all business lines.
  • Partnership with ORM regionally and globally to ensure consistent deployment and implementation of the evolving operational risk framework and input into global initiatives.
  • Input into and participation with change initiatives, remediation projects and issue resolution throughout the region in an operational risk capacity.
  • Attendance of and active engagement in standing business partnership and control meetings focusing on identification of emerging and existing risks, escalation, mitigation and remediation to ensuring an environment of continuously improving operational risk management and reduction.
  • Facilitate training as required to Prime Services staff, Shared Services etc.
  • Working closely with regional management to ensure an appropriate operational risk lens is applied and agenda pursued alongside regional initiatives.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

 

Education:

Essential: A relevant university degree (preferably in finance, risk management, or economics)

Desirable: Professional qualification, e.g. CFA/ ACCA

 

Experience:

Essential:

Extensive experience (10+ years) in an investment banking environment (ideally in risk but equivalent experience in a trading, front office COO, product control or operations role will also be considered).

 

Business Skills and Knowledge:

 

Essential:

  • First-hand experience of working within or supporting investment banking businesses.
  • Experience in a controls or risk management function (though not necessarily in an operational risk capacity)
  • Strong communicator, able to interact at senior levels in a credible fashion.
  • Strong interpersonal / team skills, able to illustrate an ability to work collaboratively across global teams in both a formal and virtual capacity (e.g. pulling different groups together outside of function)
  • Proven self-starter, able to work autonomously under remote supervision as an individual key contributor
  • Innovative and solution orientated: Strong analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience overseeing a Prime Services or securities financing business within a large investment or commercial bank.
  • Operational risk management experience beneficial (including familiarity with operational risk framework implementation, risk assessments and principles around operational risk management such as capital allocation, metrics etc.)
  • Familiarity and prior interaction with regulators in Ireland and the UK/EMEA region is beneficial.
  • Proven ability in project / change management
