Group Overview:

Internal Audit's primary mission is to provide assurance to the Board of Directors and Executive Management that BLACKROCK's businesses are well managed and meeting strategic, operational and risk management objectives. The team engages with senior leaders and all of BLACKROCK's individual business units globally to understand and advise on the risks in their business, evaluate the effectiveness of key processes and assist in the design of best practices that can improve their results. Internal Audit's work builds confidence that BLACKROCK will meet its obligations to clients, shareholders, employees and other stakeholders.

In addition to seasoned auditors from public accounting firm, the team also includes professionals with trading, sales, risk management, compliance, technology, finance and operational experience. Internal Audit reports directly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

Role Description:

The Internal Audit team performs country, regional and global audits covering various BLACKROCK business units, including investment management, sales, trading, operations, risk management, finance, legal and compliance.

BLACKROCK's Internal Audit group is seeking a Director level executive to support the execution of the firm's annual audit plan and advisory activities, while developing in-depth knowledge of BLACKROCK's businesses and products. The Director will be responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership and management of the Internal Audit group's operations in the Asia Pacific region. This individual is expected to oversee independent and objective assurance projects, collaborate with business and risk partners and work effectively with members of the Internal Audit Global Leadership Team. The Director will also have primary relationship responsibilities with senior management personnel and will be an active participant on various Operating, Audit, and Risk Management governance committees. This position will report to the Head of Asia Pacific Audit. This position will be located in Hong Kong and some travel will be required, approximately 5-20% of the time.

The Director will be a member of the Internal Audit Leadership Team and will be expected to contribute significantly to the strategic planning, process innovation, and assurance/advisory project execution of the global team. Areas of the business within scope for this role include investment management, sales, trading, operations, risk management, finance, legal, and compliance.

The Internal Audit Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Overall management and/or leading the execution of audit reviews, including project management, resource planning, and ensuring timely completion
  • Leading multiple projects such as departmental initiatives and/or advisory works in addition to the effective management of audit execution
  • Contributing to ongoing business monitoring and optimization activities, including:
    • Identifying emerging firm-wide and business risks
    • Leading projects aimed at optimizing business processes and control activities
    • Providing advisory services during the development of new businesses and systems
    • Managing and/or leading regulatory and industry-driven audit reviews
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with BLACKROCK businesses and support functions, including acting as the primary Internal Audit business engagement liaison for one or more lines of business
  • Assisting in the formation of the annual audit plan
  • Working with the Head of Asia Pacific Audit in preparing and presenting periodic updates to the relevant internal and external governance forums, clients, Fund Boards, and regulatory bodies
  • Participating in key governance and oversight committees surrounding risk and control management
  • Collaborating with the other corporate risk and control functions to ensure activities are coordinated and fully leveraged
  • Managing audit staff, including providing timely and candid feedback and coaching
  • Assisting in the recruitment and development of talent

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, accounting, business management, or related field is preferred. BA/BS, or equivalent, is required
  • 10-15 years of experience in the financial services industry or in an audit role, with advanced knowledge of investment management, sales, trading, operations, risk management, finance, legal, and compliance activities
  • Advanced understanding of financial instruments and asset management processes and risks
  • Proficient understanding of current regulatory environment and industry events
  • Broad exposure to audit, risk management, operations, finance and compliance activities is preferred
  • Experience managing teams of skilled professionals and developing talent
  • Relevant professional certifications are a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill at native level in both English and Chinese (Putonghua)
  • Strong writing skills, particularly as related to audit reports and management presentations
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers and business partners
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and presentation skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and healthy skepticism
  • Ability to synthesize and articulate complex ideas
  • Critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Familiarity with Excel
