Workplace Technology Desktop Security Engineer

About the role:

The Workplace Technology Service Design and Engineering (SDE) team supports and enables Macquarie's global activities by providing Workplace Technologies to Macquarie's business units to meet their particular needs.

You will be working in a global team of architects and design engineers who are responsible for the design and deployment of solutions using to deliver Workplace Technology services like email, collaboration, mobility and remote access. You will focus on provisioning, deployment, maintenance, enhancement, automation and 3 rd level support escalation for these technologies across the entire global organisation.

The team is currently engaged in a number of projects including cloud based productivity and collaboration tools, enhanced mobility and BYOD, hosted virtual desktop enhancements, SOE enhancements, security product upgrades, and various business-driven projects. The environment consists of around 22000 desktop/laptops and 8000 mobile devices supporting 15000 users in over 30 countries.

Key responsibilities:

  • working with engineering team to implement, document and transition desktop security solutions
  • working with operational teams to identify knowledge and documentation gaps
  • engagement with workplace teams around security requirements and consulting for workplace projects
  • maintaining relationships with Macquarie business users and the wider global IT team
  • escalating any known issues or risks appropriately
  • point of escalation for level 2/3 support queries and assistance for operational teams


About you:


You will be a self-starter with a broad range of experience designing, implementing and supporting desktop security products and solutions. You will be customer-focused with good communication skills, both verbally and written. You will use your design experience and knowledge to influence the direction of the service and ensure continued quality delivery of solutions.
  • at least 5 years' experience in the IT industry
  • understanding of architecture and design principles
  • an understanding of Service Management including change, incident and problem management as it applies to a large corporate environment and use of an ITSM tool such as Remedy
  • broad understanding of related Enterprise technologies (firewalls, routing, Windows and Unix servers, storage, virtualisation and cloud technologies)
  • exhibit technical credibility with both IT and business stakeholders
  • ability take initiative, work independently, and manage tasks to a timeline
  • knowledge and experience of McAfee Desktop Security products including ePolicy Orchestrator, VirusScan Enteprise, Host Intrusion Prevention, Host Data Loss Prevention
  • knowledge and Experience with Avecto Privilege Guard and Avecto Defendpoint
  • sound knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems including Windows 7 and Windows 10
  • sound knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS
  • sound knowledge of PKI infrastructure


Any of the following skills are highly desirable:
  • Microsoft SCCM 2007 / 2012
  • Microsoft SCUP
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012
  • Microsoft Bitlocker Administration and Management
  • Microsoft Intune
